Healing Through Art: Transform Emotion Into Color

In this episode, Courtney walks you through a complete Healing Through Art workshop designed for adults, one you can follow along with at home using watercolor, acrylic, crayons, or colored pencils. This isn't about creating a masterpiece. It's about moving heavy emotions out of your body and onto the page.

The process begins with a card pull from the Inner Child Oracle Deck, setting intention for the work ahead. Courtney then guides you through identifying emotion points, fear, frustration, anger, self-image, overwhelm, resentment, shame, guilt, and assigning each one a color based on pure intuition, not logic. You paint or color these feelings as shapes and sizes that feel right, letting the medium do what it naturally does: spread, blend, create watermarks, surprise you.

This integrated processing technique engages both hemispheres of your brain: language on the left, color and imagery on the right. As emotions move from body to canvas, you may yawn, sigh, or feel energy shift. That's the work happening.

Once dry, you transmute the painting into something positive. You might trace every line and watermark with meditative music playing, or flip the image upside down to see it from a new perspective. You might discover an image hidden in the shapes and outline it with marker.

Courtney also shares examples from past workshops and explains the color guide used in professional healing sessions, what purple, green, blue, and yellow typically represent in emotional processing.

00:00:00.000 --> 00:00:03.000
Hello and welcome to this episode of Practically

00:00:03.000 --> 00:00:07.400
Magic. You are going to be seeing a lot of my

00:00:07.400 --> 00:00:11.500
hands. Luckily, I just got myself a manicure

00:00:11.500 --> 00:00:14.339
so that... will hopefully be a lovely view for

00:00:14.339 --> 00:00:16.899
you. Today's episode is going to be a demonstration

00:00:16.899 --> 00:00:20.660
of a healing through art workshop that I do with

00:00:20.660 --> 00:00:24.160
adults typically. I have a variation of this

00:00:24.160 --> 00:00:26.899
that I do with prism healing where I will do

00:00:26.899 --> 00:00:32.700
this with children or with teenagers. only what

00:00:32.700 --> 00:00:34.780
is developmentally appropriate for that age group.

00:00:34.859 --> 00:00:37.939
So I have various forms of this workshop, but

00:00:37.939 --> 00:00:39.799
today you're gonna be watching an episode where

00:00:39.799 --> 00:00:41.820
we are gonna walk through it together with you.

00:00:42.179 --> 00:00:45.280
And you can actually follow along if you have

00:00:45.280 --> 00:00:49.090
materials at home. and it's not gonna be exactly

00:00:49.090 --> 00:00:52.850
the same or probably as well as we normally do

00:00:52.850 --> 00:00:55.450
it. So if you're listening to this, you can still

00:00:55.450 --> 00:00:58.689
listen along and get an idea of what the workshop

00:00:58.689 --> 00:01:01.770
would be like and how the process works. You're

00:01:01.770 --> 00:01:04.370
also gonna get a demonstration on how to do some

00:01:04.370 --> 00:01:06.489
techniques with the art. We're using watercolor

00:01:06.489 --> 00:01:09.650
today, but we can also do this with acrylic or

00:01:09.650 --> 00:01:12.629
watercolor pencil or oil pastel or even crayons

00:01:12.629 --> 00:01:15.370
if you would like to try it with us. So we're

00:01:15.370 --> 00:01:17.489
starting today's episode as we normally do with

00:01:17.489 --> 00:01:23.209
a card poll. Today I am using my Inner Child

00:01:23.209 --> 00:01:28.450
Oracle deck, not tarot, but this will be the

00:01:28.450 --> 00:01:32.250
card that is meant for us today. Whenever you

00:01:32.250 --> 00:01:35.189
are listening, whenever you're watching, this

00:01:35.189 --> 00:01:40.750
is what card is needed for you as we go through

00:01:40.750 --> 00:01:43.469
this process and if you are following along with

00:01:43.469 --> 00:01:48.769
the art. demonstration today. Okay, one more

00:01:48.769 --> 00:01:58.150
shuffle real quick and pull the card of transformation.

00:01:59.370 --> 00:02:02.170
Absolutely appropriate. This is the inner child

00:02:02.170 --> 00:02:06.150
oracle deck because when I do a healing process

00:02:06.150 --> 00:02:09.090
or emotional process, energy healing session,

00:02:09.810 --> 00:02:12.409
oftentimes we are working with an inner child

00:02:12.409 --> 00:02:14.919
as we're doing this and I firmly believe, and

00:02:14.919 --> 00:02:16.919
if you've listened to any of the previous episodes

00:02:16.919 --> 00:02:19.759
of Practically Magic, you'll know that I firmly

00:02:19.759 --> 00:02:22.199
believe that a lot of healing can take place

00:02:22.199 --> 00:02:26.479
when we go into our inner child, when we seek

00:02:26.479 --> 00:02:29.819
guidance or seek awareness or seek witnessing

00:02:29.819 --> 00:02:34.759
what our inner child has to say. And a lot of

00:02:34.759 --> 00:02:37.780
the cycles of healing and what we're working

00:02:37.780 --> 00:02:39.680
through when we're going through an alchemical

00:02:39.680 --> 00:02:44.139
transformation is is just that, it's a transformation.

00:02:44.719 --> 00:02:49.060
It's turning light into gold, but in a more metaphysical

00:02:49.060 --> 00:02:53.520
way. So I love that this card almost brings that

00:02:53.520 --> 00:02:56.740
up as it has these little, if you can look close

00:02:56.740 --> 00:02:59.319
enough in the video, these little tiny versions

00:02:59.319 --> 00:03:03.680
of her. One is doing ballet and it kind of writes

00:03:03.680 --> 00:03:08.840
this little story as she goes into, from her

00:03:08.840 --> 00:03:12.469
birth and from her... from her mother's womb

00:03:12.469 --> 00:03:16.750
into her childhood, into her teens, into becoming

00:03:16.750 --> 00:03:23.770
a mother, into this almost warrior alter ego,

00:03:23.810 --> 00:03:26.129
which I love when we're working with solar plexus

00:03:26.129 --> 00:03:29.310
energy and healing, is to bring out that warrior.

00:03:29.469 --> 00:03:34.669
She's got a bow and arrow. And then the transformation

00:03:34.669 --> 00:03:36.969
of becoming. Here's her, and she's almost in

00:03:36.969 --> 00:03:40.789
her crone era, but... yet she still looks like

00:03:40.789 --> 00:03:42.669
a maiden. So you can interpret it a lot of different

00:03:42.669 --> 00:03:44.810
ways in this card. But one of the reasons I love

00:03:44.810 --> 00:03:46.830
this deck is because of the artwork. It's so

00:03:46.830 --> 00:03:51.669
colorful and vibrant and creative. And because

00:03:51.669 --> 00:03:54.930
I encourage that when we're working with color

00:03:54.930 --> 00:03:58.729
and we're working with art, today is not about

00:03:58.729 --> 00:04:02.770
what is the end product that we're going to have.

00:04:02.849 --> 00:04:04.889
Most of us are not going to create some type

00:04:04.889 --> 00:04:08.379
of art that May hang in a gallery someday or

00:04:08.379 --> 00:04:10.560
even something we would hang on our own wall.

00:04:11.099 --> 00:04:14.800
That's not really the point So I want you if

00:04:14.800 --> 00:04:16.980
you're listening now and you're feeling kind

00:04:16.980 --> 00:04:20.300
of that sticky cell Part of you that says oh

00:04:20.300 --> 00:04:23.720
my gosh art. No way. I'm not doing art. Yuck.

00:04:23.899 --> 00:04:26.779
I cannot do art I don't like what I make I don't

00:04:26.779 --> 00:04:28.980
I don't know how to make anything. I can't even

00:04:28.980 --> 00:04:32.040
do stick figures I've heard it all people. Okay,

00:04:32.180 --> 00:04:36.100
just to let you know I have heard it all And

00:04:36.100 --> 00:04:38.759
that's not gonna be the point. The point of what

00:04:38.759 --> 00:04:41.560
we're doing here today is to engage in our color

00:04:41.560 --> 00:04:44.600
magic, and you can do that with some simple tools.

00:04:45.220 --> 00:04:47.300
Again, this is not about creating a masterpiece,

00:04:47.480 --> 00:04:49.779
so whatever you put in front of you, it can be

00:04:49.779 --> 00:04:53.079
a blank piece of copy paper, it could be watercolor

00:04:53.079 --> 00:04:57.339
paper, it could be a canvas, ready to do acrylic.

00:04:57.939 --> 00:05:00.439
Whatever it is, just think of it as I'm going

00:05:00.439 --> 00:05:03.110
back. to honor my inner child and let my inner

00:05:03.110 --> 00:05:05.750
child play with the colors, play with the feelings

00:05:05.750 --> 00:05:08.670
and emotions that come out. So the first thing

00:05:08.670 --> 00:05:10.410
that you will need, I'll kind of give you a list

00:05:10.410 --> 00:05:12.290
of supplies to have ready. You want something

00:05:12.290 --> 00:05:15.689
with colors. Today I have a good old fashioned

00:05:15.689 --> 00:05:20.569
palette of the primary and secondary colors on

00:05:20.569 --> 00:05:23.149
watercolor. Usually watercolor will not have

00:05:23.149 --> 00:05:24.930
white. Sometimes they come with a little tube

00:05:24.930 --> 00:05:26.970
of white if you want to add white, but usually

00:05:26.970 --> 00:05:30.810
watercolor will... allow you to have white where

00:05:30.810 --> 00:05:33.769
the paper is and so you can brighten or lighten

00:05:33.769 --> 00:05:37.470
your colors based on how much water you use or

00:05:37.470 --> 00:05:41.689
in the absence of color, it will leave white

00:05:41.689 --> 00:05:44.389
from the paper. So know that when you're doing

00:05:44.389 --> 00:05:47.709
watercolor that you may not have white and that's

00:05:47.709 --> 00:05:51.290
okay. There's still gonna be white that you're

00:05:51.290 --> 00:05:54.379
going to have available. with the paper. Or you

00:05:54.379 --> 00:05:56.680
can use acrylic. Acrylic, you can add a lot of

00:05:56.680 --> 00:05:58.500
water to acrylic and it will still be really

00:05:58.500 --> 00:06:01.240
watery and runny like watercolor and you would

00:06:01.240 --> 00:06:04.000
just have to squeeze out a little bit of each

00:06:04.000 --> 00:06:07.439
color on a paper plate or on a palette if you

00:06:07.439 --> 00:06:13.000
have one. Something like this, I will show you.

00:06:14.100 --> 00:06:17.459
Okay, so we squeeze out all the primary and secondary

00:06:17.459 --> 00:06:20.579
colors, white and black on something like this.

00:06:20.800 --> 00:06:23.680
plastic and just so you know I like to let my

00:06:23.680 --> 00:06:26.620
acrylic dry and then I peel it out so you get

00:06:26.620 --> 00:06:29.560
Here's what acrylic is like when it's dry. It's

00:06:29.560 --> 00:06:33.800
like a rubbery plasticky kind of feeling And

00:06:33.800 --> 00:06:35.620
then just throw these away, but just want to

00:06:35.620 --> 00:06:37.959
show you what that's like so that's a lot different

00:06:37.959 --> 00:06:41.439
than watercolor because watercolor will Dry and

00:06:41.439 --> 00:06:43.259
then it can be used again. You just add water

00:06:43.259 --> 00:06:46.139
to it and it's ready to go again Acrylic whatever

00:06:46.139 --> 00:06:50.139
you squeeze out whatever dries. It's done. It's

00:06:50.139 --> 00:06:53.449
dry It's pretty much garbage at this point. I

00:06:53.449 --> 00:06:56.750
have students that like to play with it and want

00:06:56.750 --> 00:07:00.569
to create art projects with dried acrylic pieces.

00:07:02.269 --> 00:07:04.810
More power to you if you want to do that. But

00:07:04.810 --> 00:07:08.129
you do not have to have paints. If you have a

00:07:08.129 --> 00:07:11.350
box of crayons and a stack of paper, you can

00:07:11.350 --> 00:07:13.910
do this process with us. Again, it's not about

00:07:13.910 --> 00:07:15.970
the product. We are not creating a masterpiece

00:07:15.970 --> 00:07:18.850
here. We are just learning how to express our

00:07:18.850 --> 00:07:23.240
emotions. through paint. I'm not giving away

00:07:23.240 --> 00:07:26.060
all trade secrets here today. I am going to show

00:07:26.060 --> 00:07:28.639
you what the process of one of my workshops kind

00:07:28.639 --> 00:07:30.939
of looks like and how you can do some of it at

00:07:30.939 --> 00:07:32.920
home when you're working through something difficult

00:07:32.920 --> 00:07:35.680
or when you want to unblock some creative blocks

00:07:35.680 --> 00:07:38.740
that you have. Maybe you're a writer, maybe you're

00:07:38.740 --> 00:07:41.899
a poet, maybe you're just you know working on

00:07:41.899 --> 00:07:45.170
a business and you just feel really stuck. This

00:07:45.170 --> 00:07:48.829
is some ways that I use color magic and art magic

00:07:48.829 --> 00:07:53.730
to help unblock those things. That being said,

00:07:53.990 --> 00:07:57.889
if you were to do a workshop with me, the reason

00:07:57.889 --> 00:08:00.250
I don't just record my workshops and have everybody

00:08:00.250 --> 00:08:04.589
do it at home is that it really does matter.

00:08:04.769 --> 00:08:09.490
It does give you a lot more to have someone there

00:08:09.490 --> 00:08:12.399
facilitating the healing with you. asking the

00:08:12.399 --> 00:08:15.120
questions, watching what colors you paint out,

00:08:15.199 --> 00:08:17.459
and then asking follow -up questions based on

00:08:17.459 --> 00:08:19.620
the colors you choose. And that is something

00:08:19.620 --> 00:08:22.540
I cannot do through the camera to you right now.

00:08:23.560 --> 00:08:28.220
I can only show you how to use this when you

00:08:28.220 --> 00:08:31.740
are stuck and when you're alone. How can you

00:08:31.740 --> 00:08:33.519
kind of utilize the colors we've talked about?

00:08:34.200 --> 00:08:37.700
And of course, there are episodes in previous

00:08:37.700 --> 00:08:40.100
seasons of Practically Magic where I discuss

00:08:40.100 --> 00:08:43.360
art and why art is such a powerful tool for healing

00:08:43.360 --> 00:08:46.840
because that feeling that a lot of you have when

00:08:46.840 --> 00:08:48.799
I mention art or that we're going to be doing

00:08:48.799 --> 00:08:53.139
art and you say, ew and yuck and oh no, that

00:08:53.139 --> 00:08:57.460
is absolutely correlated with the feelings you

00:08:57.460 --> 00:09:01.669
might have about things in life as well. I cannot

00:09:01.669 --> 00:09:04.250
stress this enough. My beliefs are that whatever

00:09:04.250 --> 00:09:07.809
way you look at a blank canvas, it can also be

00:09:07.809 --> 00:09:10.009
translated as the way that you look at life.

00:09:10.649 --> 00:09:13.590
Do you find yourself being a participant in the

00:09:13.590 --> 00:09:16.149
creative process that is your life? Or do you

00:09:16.149 --> 00:09:19.090
feel stuck? Do you feel blocked? Do you feel

00:09:19.090 --> 00:09:23.350
inadequate? Do you feel that you don't have that

00:09:23.350 --> 00:09:27.629
spark of inspiration and creativity and enthusiasm

00:09:27.629 --> 00:09:30.820
that it takes to engage in life? and towards

00:09:30.820 --> 00:09:32.419
the goals that you want to make for yourself.

00:09:33.539 --> 00:09:36.179
And so I think doing this activity can really

00:09:36.179 --> 00:09:39.220
open up a lot of powerful healing. And with that

00:09:39.220 --> 00:09:41.139
being said, let's get to it. So we're going to

00:09:41.139 --> 00:09:42.539
be using watercolor. And so I'm going to show

00:09:42.539 --> 00:09:44.820
you some of the techniques with watercolor. But

00:09:44.820 --> 00:09:46.740
again, if you had watercolor pencils, you would

00:09:46.740 --> 00:09:49.460
just be coloring this out. And the thing that

00:09:49.460 --> 00:09:51.379
I like to do is I like to go through some emotion

00:09:51.379 --> 00:09:54.740
points that feel heavy in the body and ask, what

00:09:54.740 --> 00:09:58.320
sort of feelings am I having if I had any fear?

00:09:58.730 --> 00:10:01.210
Fear is a good one to start with. If I had any

00:10:01.210 --> 00:10:04.990
fear, what would my fear be about? And what I'd

00:10:04.990 --> 00:10:06.809
like you to do is whether you're using a journal

00:10:06.809 --> 00:10:09.509
or whether you're using your language and you're

00:10:09.509 --> 00:10:12.470
talking to someone or if you're just putting

00:10:12.470 --> 00:10:16.009
words to the thoughts in your head, I need there

00:10:16.009 --> 00:10:19.070
to be actual words taking place here. There needs

00:10:19.070 --> 00:10:22.710
to be some sort of labeling of the feeling. I

00:10:22.710 --> 00:10:27.019
feel fear because I'm afraid I don't have enough

00:10:27.019 --> 00:10:35.299
time. I'm afraid that I'm Won't be loved if I

00:10:35.299 --> 00:10:38.340
show up as myself. I'm afraid that my business

00:10:38.340 --> 00:10:41.159
will never take off I'm afraid these are just

00:10:41.159 --> 00:10:43.159
some examples But I want you to actually take

00:10:43.159 --> 00:10:45.519
a moment if you have to pause the video or you

00:10:45.519 --> 00:10:47.620
have to think about it Or you have to journal

00:10:47.620 --> 00:10:50.899
it. What would the fear be like if it was coming

00:10:50.899 --> 00:10:54.299
out right now? And the first thing we're going

00:10:54.299 --> 00:10:56.080
to do is we're going to language it. And then

00:10:56.080 --> 00:10:57.399
the second thing we're going to do is we're going

00:10:57.399 --> 00:11:02.539
to choose a color to go with the fear. That fear

00:11:02.539 --> 00:11:05.000
can feel like any color. There's no right or

00:11:05.000 --> 00:11:06.500
wrong answer here. And it's really important

00:11:06.500 --> 00:11:08.879
that you go with your first instinct. Because

00:11:08.879 --> 00:11:11.299
we're kind of trained as children that certain

00:11:11.299 --> 00:11:13.360
colors are associated with certain emotions.

00:11:13.639 --> 00:11:17.279
And that's not always true. So for example, my

00:11:17.279 --> 00:11:21.259
fear could feel blue. But if I'm talking about

00:11:21.259 --> 00:11:26.440
a specific fear like my fear of not being enough

00:11:26.440 --> 00:11:30.360
in a certain situation, well then that fear might

00:11:30.360 --> 00:11:33.679
feel orange. That particular fear is whatever

00:11:33.679 --> 00:11:36.600
color it feels like. So I need you to associate

00:11:36.600 --> 00:11:39.879
that fear with an actual color. And then what

00:11:39.879 --> 00:11:41.500
we're gonna do is we're gonna represent that

00:11:41.500 --> 00:11:44.919
color on our paper in a certain shape and size.

00:11:45.419 --> 00:11:48.480
So I like with watercolor, And with acrylic,

00:11:48.700 --> 00:11:50.779
I like to get the area that I'm thinking of the

00:11:50.779 --> 00:11:54.440
fear. I like to get it wet first with some water.

00:11:55.799 --> 00:11:58.639
And this is some painting technique. So you can't

00:11:58.639 --> 00:12:00.860
see it on the camera, but you can see that I'm

00:12:00.860 --> 00:12:04.759
just painting what looks like clear, just water.

00:12:06.399 --> 00:12:08.440
Okay. And if you're doing some painting with

00:12:08.440 --> 00:12:11.240
me, just know that I chose a medium sized brush

00:12:11.240 --> 00:12:13.639
and I'm going to use the same brush for the entire

00:12:13.639 --> 00:12:16.759
painting. This is not about switching around

00:12:16.759 --> 00:12:20.720
to like a smaller brush with more detail or a

00:12:20.720 --> 00:12:24.399
larger brush. You could maybe pick a larger brush

00:12:24.399 --> 00:12:26.360
if you needed to really cover a lot of space

00:12:26.360 --> 00:12:28.919
in a short amount of time. That makes sense,

00:12:28.940 --> 00:12:31.080
but for the most part, I'm gonna pick a medium

00:12:31.080 --> 00:12:32.879
sized brush and I'm gonna do my entire painting

00:12:32.879 --> 00:12:36.539
that way because again, I'm not concerned with

00:12:36.539 --> 00:12:38.799
it looking a certain way or being of a certain

00:12:38.799 --> 00:12:45.259
thing. I just want my fear to paint onto this

00:12:45.259 --> 00:12:50.139
paper whatever shape that it's in. So I like

00:12:50.139 --> 00:12:53.399
to get the area wet first in the shape and then

00:12:53.399 --> 00:12:56.019
I'm gonna choose the color that goes with my

00:12:56.019 --> 00:13:03.320
fear and I'm gonna dab that, apologize if the

00:13:03.320 --> 00:13:07.899
camera keeps going in and out trying to be mindful

00:13:07.899 --> 00:13:11.340
of what you can see on the camera here. I'm just

00:13:11.340 --> 00:13:15.059
going to actually let the color that feels like

00:13:15.059 --> 00:13:21.629
my fear swim and sploosh into that water. I'm

00:13:21.629 --> 00:13:24.769
not concerned with whether it spreads, because

00:13:24.769 --> 00:13:26.710
it's only gonna spread to the edge of where my

00:13:26.710 --> 00:13:30.649
wet goes and then stop, and that's fine. I can

00:13:30.649 --> 00:13:33.649
make it really splotchy or I can really paint

00:13:33.649 --> 00:13:36.870
it out and fill that area. Either way, I'm not

00:13:36.870 --> 00:13:40.580
wrong. you get to decide how you want it to look

00:13:40.580 --> 00:13:43.460
and how you want it to feel. And if it goes awry

00:13:43.460 --> 00:13:45.960
and you're like, whoa, that totally splooged

00:13:45.960 --> 00:13:47.679
out everywhere and I didn't want it to do that,

00:13:48.220 --> 00:13:50.100
I don't want you to worry about that. I want

00:13:50.100 --> 00:13:53.059
you to imagine that the color represents your

00:13:53.059 --> 00:13:57.379
fear and it is just coming out of the body through

00:13:57.379 --> 00:14:01.419
the arm and onto the page. Remember magic, we've

00:14:01.419 --> 00:14:05.379
talked about in other episodes, magic energy

00:14:05.379 --> 00:14:09.649
follows intention. So this is our intention.

00:14:09.730 --> 00:14:12.470
We are moving this heaviness out of our body

00:14:12.470 --> 00:14:17.610
into color. And I love when it gets really liquidy

00:14:17.610 --> 00:14:21.649
and sploogy and like, it's gonna like kind of.

00:14:22.090 --> 00:14:24.570
Now some of it, if it's a little too dark, I

00:14:24.570 --> 00:14:27.570
can add more water to it and then let it sort

00:14:27.570 --> 00:14:36.559
of spread a little more. I can let that. become

00:14:36.559 --> 00:14:39.000
whatever it is. I have started this painting

00:14:39.000 --> 00:14:41.299
with absolutely no plan and that's kind of how

00:14:41.299 --> 00:14:43.759
I want you to do it when it comes to this type

00:14:43.759 --> 00:14:46.259
of thing, healing through art. I do not want

00:14:46.259 --> 00:14:48.799
you to have a plan in mind, like it's gonna look

00:14:48.799 --> 00:14:51.980
like this and it's gonna go this way. I just

00:14:51.980 --> 00:14:54.840
knew that this shape that you're seeing on the

00:14:54.840 --> 00:14:57.980
camera right now, all I know is that's what my

00:14:57.980 --> 00:15:00.679
fear feels like. It feels like this shape and

00:15:00.679 --> 00:15:03.559
this color. It also doesn't have to be any particular

00:15:03.559 --> 00:15:07.350
color, okay? Like one color. I chose orange for

00:15:07.350 --> 00:15:09.730
my fear because it feels a little bit like I

00:15:09.730 --> 00:15:13.750
feel stuck. I feel a little blocked. I feel like

00:15:13.750 --> 00:15:17.549
my fear is associated with kind of like that

00:15:17.549 --> 00:15:19.370
feeling of I don't know if I'm ever going to

00:15:19.370 --> 00:15:21.509
be able to do what I want to do. I don't know

00:15:21.509 --> 00:15:25.269
if I can do it. And that just felt orange to

00:15:25.269 --> 00:15:28.029
me. For no particular reason. Just felt orange.

00:15:28.610 --> 00:15:31.789
And then the shape just came out. Like it's it

00:15:31.789 --> 00:15:34.789
was no plan of mine really just This is the shape

00:15:34.789 --> 00:15:37.629
of that exact feeling. That's how I want you

00:15:37.629 --> 00:15:40.250
to do it. Yours might be more than one color,

00:15:40.250 --> 00:15:43.950
so you can add colors to that. And then I want

00:15:43.950 --> 00:15:47.830
you to ask the question, have I felt any frustration

00:15:47.830 --> 00:15:53.009
or that feeling of frustration? I'm so frustrated

00:15:53.009 --> 00:15:56.809
because... And then go ahead and finish that

00:15:56.809 --> 00:15:59.789
sentence. I'm frustrated because... And then

00:15:59.789 --> 00:16:02.250
you can go ahead and journal that or you can...

00:16:03.629 --> 00:16:06.769
Take a quiet moment, pause the video, say what

00:16:06.769 --> 00:16:09.990
am I frustrated about most right now? And then

00:16:09.990 --> 00:16:14.730
again, we're gonna choose a shape. It might be

00:16:14.730 --> 00:16:17.610
right alongside the shape you just did. In that

00:16:17.610 --> 00:16:20.669
case, if you get that wet, it will start to blend.

00:16:20.870 --> 00:16:24.529
It'll start to, whatever color it was that you

00:16:24.529 --> 00:16:26.889
had, it's gonna start to like fill into that.

00:16:27.870 --> 00:16:31.269
And then I'm gonna give it a color. Now what

00:16:31.269 --> 00:16:33.710
we're doing, and this comes from my training

00:16:33.710 --> 00:16:36.450
at the Institute of Healing Arts, the integrated

00:16:36.450 --> 00:16:39.909
processing technique that I do, what that means

00:16:39.909 --> 00:16:43.070
is integration of right and left brain. So we

00:16:43.070 --> 00:16:45.950
are languaging the feelings, we are languaging

00:16:45.950 --> 00:16:48.389
the emotion, but we're also representing it as

00:16:48.389 --> 00:16:51.830
a color. So in doing that, we're engaging our

00:16:51.830 --> 00:16:55.049
right brain. So our left brain does the language,

00:16:55.289 --> 00:16:58.879
our right brain does the color. And we're combining

00:16:58.879 --> 00:17:03.360
them to represent and to express a very valid,

00:17:03.480 --> 00:17:07.539
very real emotion in our body. Emotions are just

00:17:07.539 --> 00:17:11.059
energy in motion. So here is my energy in motion.

00:17:12.019 --> 00:17:16.220
My frustration feels green. I don't know why.

00:17:16.299 --> 00:17:19.579
Can't explain it. Don't have to. It's not my

00:17:19.579 --> 00:17:24.960
job to explain it right now as the participant.

00:17:25.920 --> 00:17:28.259
As the emotional healer, it is my job to explain

00:17:28.259 --> 00:17:31.980
it, but set that aside. That's not your job,

00:17:32.279 --> 00:17:36.180
participants. Okay, and you might just be representing

00:17:36.180 --> 00:17:41.799
that emotion as a color. And you know, not all

00:17:41.799 --> 00:17:44.640
of it blends. It sometimes just feels really

00:17:44.640 --> 00:17:47.720
spotty too. And I'm leaving some white spots

00:17:47.720 --> 00:17:51.359
as I go, because that's what feels right to me.

00:17:51.500 --> 00:17:54.720
The more paint you add, the darker the feeling,

00:17:54.940 --> 00:17:58.079
the darker the color is gonna be. And look at

00:17:58.079 --> 00:18:01.779
how it just like swims. Now anywhere where my

00:18:01.779 --> 00:18:04.539
watercolor dries, it's gonna create lines. It's

00:18:04.539 --> 00:18:08.240
gonna create those watermark spots. And this

00:18:08.240 --> 00:18:12.400
is why I teach watercolor this way. I teach it

00:18:12.400 --> 00:18:15.480
like with. Just playfulness and playing around

00:18:15.480 --> 00:18:18.440
with it because the best way to learn how to

00:18:18.440 --> 00:18:20.900
watercolor and to Control where that watercolor

00:18:20.900 --> 00:18:24.299
goes and what it does is to first learn what

00:18:24.299 --> 00:18:27.359
it's gonna do This is what I do with children.

00:18:27.380 --> 00:18:30.339
I say, you know, there's no mistakes. There's

00:18:30.339 --> 00:18:32.759
just learning So we're just learning how to do

00:18:32.759 --> 00:18:35.839
it You can now see some differences like some

00:18:35.839 --> 00:18:38.920
of these spots are darker where I added more

00:18:38.920 --> 00:18:42.630
water Sorry where I added more paint and some

00:18:42.630 --> 00:18:44.970
of the spots lightened where it was more watery.

00:18:46.069 --> 00:18:48.230
If I was doing a painting where I actually wanted

00:18:48.230 --> 00:18:52.490
to shade or make it real, real intentional, real

00:18:52.490 --> 00:18:56.049
deliberate where I wanted that color to go, I

00:18:56.049 --> 00:18:59.410
would be better at it because I did this. But

00:18:59.410 --> 00:19:02.230
for today, for this, we're not concerned with

00:19:02.230 --> 00:19:05.750
what it looks like. We're just going based on

00:19:05.750 --> 00:19:09.589
feel, entirely by feel. Ooh, so you might start

00:19:09.589 --> 00:19:13.440
to feel that energy shift. yawn or sigh or feel

00:19:13.440 --> 00:19:16.019
like, okay, I'm really feeling a lot of this

00:19:16.019 --> 00:19:19.380
coming out onto the paper. What's the next feeling

00:19:19.380 --> 00:19:22.220
or emotion? Once that shifts, I can move on to

00:19:22.220 --> 00:19:25.720
the next emotion point and say, all right, the

00:19:25.720 --> 00:19:32.400
next emotion I feel might be anger. Maybe you're

00:19:32.400 --> 00:19:35.240
not ready for anger yet, that's okay. But eventually

00:19:35.240 --> 00:19:37.599
somewhere in the process, I make everybody do

00:19:37.599 --> 00:19:40.099
suppressed anger as an emotion point because

00:19:40.380 --> 00:19:43.400
It is my experience and what I have been taught

00:19:43.400 --> 00:19:47.059
by many facilitators who do this processing.

00:19:48.000 --> 00:19:50.200
But suppressed anger is a must. It's in there.

00:19:50.299 --> 00:19:52.920
It's happening. You may not feel it yet, but

00:19:52.920 --> 00:19:55.980
it'll come eventually. So pay attention to when

00:19:55.980 --> 00:19:58.559
it does. If you're not ready for suppressed anger,

00:19:58.640 --> 00:20:04.160
you could also ask yourself about that out of

00:20:04.160 --> 00:20:06.599
control feeling. Is there something that feels

00:20:06.599 --> 00:20:09.140
out of control here? What does that feel like?

00:20:09.200 --> 00:20:12.160
What does that look like? And you know, actually,

00:20:12.279 --> 00:20:14.500
for me right now, that's feeling like two different

00:20:14.500 --> 00:20:19.259
colors. So I'm gonna add in some red. And while

00:20:19.259 --> 00:20:26.180
it's still wet, as I paint this area that I just

00:20:26.180 --> 00:20:29.900
happened to get wet, I was like, this is my anger.

00:20:31.000 --> 00:20:32.920
Some of this is my anger and some of it is my

00:20:32.920 --> 00:20:36.039
out of control. Actually, some of it is really

00:20:36.039 --> 00:20:39.680
just kind of mixing. And then I want some purple,

00:20:39.920 --> 00:20:43.640
so I'm adding blue in there, because my palette

00:20:43.640 --> 00:20:46.480
doesn't have a purple. It means I have to create

00:20:46.480 --> 00:20:50.859
it, which is awesome. It's even better. Ooh,

00:20:50.859 --> 00:20:53.440
I like that in between there. It's mixing with

00:20:53.440 --> 00:20:55.779
the orange now. I'm going to add a little water

00:20:55.779 --> 00:20:57.859
to that so it just splooges a little bit more.

00:20:58.029 --> 00:21:02.009
that's my own word by the way guys splooge now

00:21:02.009 --> 00:21:04.150
mine is feeling very like it's really starting

00:21:04.150 --> 00:21:06.569
to integrate into each other that doesn't have

00:21:06.569 --> 00:21:09.869
to be what yours looks like like i said when

00:21:09.869 --> 00:21:12.970
we started this there's no plan it is all how

00:21:12.970 --> 00:21:15.390
you feel so i want you to pay attention to how

00:21:15.390 --> 00:21:18.109
it feels to you if you don't like this kind of

00:21:18.109 --> 00:21:22.069
like watery sploogey there's a lot of like i'm

00:21:22.069 --> 00:21:24.390
leaving a lot of white spots in between things

00:21:24.390 --> 00:21:27.960
because that's just what i wanted to do I have

00:21:27.960 --> 00:21:29.660
seen a lot of clients who have done this work

00:21:29.660 --> 00:21:31.640
and they have done it very compartmentalized,

00:21:31.839 --> 00:21:35.650
like they have shapes. a circle, a triangle,

00:21:36.150 --> 00:21:39.369
a square, a rectangle, a star, and all of them

00:21:39.369 --> 00:21:42.190
are very separate and very much like, here's

00:21:42.190 --> 00:21:44.529
my anger, here's my resentment, here's my out

00:21:44.529 --> 00:21:46.630
of control, here's my guilt, here's my shame.

00:21:47.009 --> 00:21:49.670
And they go through all the emotion points just

00:21:49.670 --> 00:21:52.470
very compartmentalized. And you know what? There

00:21:52.470 --> 00:21:54.630
is absolutely nothing wrong with that. I think

00:21:54.630 --> 00:21:57.210
everybody is going to do it exactly what feels

00:21:57.210 --> 00:22:01.289
right to them. So don't worry at all if you feel

00:22:01.289 --> 00:22:04.920
like, oh, hers looks like way different than

00:22:04.920 --> 00:22:07.839
mine. I would even rather you not like watch

00:22:07.839 --> 00:22:11.059
my video unless you just want some tips on technique.

00:22:11.900 --> 00:22:14.039
I would almost rather you just take your own

00:22:14.039 --> 00:22:16.799
colors and your own way of doing it and do it

00:22:16.799 --> 00:22:20.180
entirely your own without an example to look

00:22:20.180 --> 00:22:24.660
at. But if you'd like some tips on how watercolor

00:22:24.660 --> 00:22:28.220
can be very fun to work with, then watching what

00:22:28.220 --> 00:22:31.480
I'm doing is a unique experience. You could do

00:22:31.480 --> 00:22:34.940
that. as well. You can see how fun watercolor

00:22:34.940 --> 00:22:37.859
can be when you're not actually actively trying

00:22:37.859 --> 00:22:40.259
to make something. I think watercolor can be

00:22:40.259 --> 00:22:42.680
frustrating for new artists just learning because

00:22:42.680 --> 00:22:44.380
they think, I don't know how to control this.

00:22:44.400 --> 00:22:47.019
It's just like when something's wet or when something's

00:22:47.019 --> 00:22:49.720
dry, it starts just mixing everywhere and I don't

00:22:49.720 --> 00:22:54.319
know how to control. And it can be frustrating,

00:22:55.160 --> 00:22:58.819
which again is part of the healing. Like, hey,

00:22:58.819 --> 00:23:03.759
let's get frustrated sometimes, right? I see

00:23:03.759 --> 00:23:05.940
you're frustrated. I validate your frustration.

00:23:06.819 --> 00:23:09.559
All that. So in an inner child healing through

00:23:09.559 --> 00:23:11.599
art workshop when I'm doing this, we're not actually

00:23:11.599 --> 00:23:14.599
working in present day emotion points. We are

00:23:14.599 --> 00:23:18.799
looking at what does that inner child feel? And

00:23:18.799 --> 00:23:22.880
it's whatever age happened to come up for you.

00:23:26.880 --> 00:23:29.859
My red is starting to look like spots of blood

00:23:29.859 --> 00:23:35.089
everywhere. I'm here for it. Kind of loving it.

00:23:36.009 --> 00:23:38.170
And you know, some of that red just feels like

00:23:38.170 --> 00:23:46.430
it needs to come in here. This is already dry.

00:23:46.970 --> 00:23:49.589
So now when I add this color to it and I'm adding

00:23:49.589 --> 00:23:53.609
some more red to it, it's going to stay where

00:23:53.609 --> 00:23:56.410
I paint it and it's gonna be really bold. It's

00:23:56.410 --> 00:23:59.829
not gonna spread and mix with the green that

00:23:59.829 --> 00:24:03.170
I put on there earlier. That's another kind of

00:24:03.170 --> 00:24:05.069
cool thing you learn about watercolor is how

00:24:05.069 --> 00:24:09.430
to control the wet and the dry to get the looks

00:24:09.430 --> 00:24:13.190
you really want. What is it going to look like

00:24:13.190 --> 00:24:15.329
when these mix or what is this going to look

00:24:15.329 --> 00:24:17.230
like when I paint on top of it after it dries?

00:24:17.769 --> 00:24:20.230
It's kind of just an experiment to see what happens.

00:24:22.670 --> 00:24:25.150
And my red is sort of taking over. It just feels

00:24:25.150 --> 00:24:26.630
like it wants to be a part of this whole painting,

00:24:26.650 --> 00:24:33.180
I guess. It's all right. No problem. Here we

00:24:33.180 --> 00:24:39.759
go. Sometimes an image will start to unveil and

00:24:39.759 --> 00:24:41.980
unravel itself in this, and that's fine too.

00:24:42.140 --> 00:24:44.619
Don't worry about it. Don't think about it just

00:24:44.619 --> 00:24:50.160
yet. That comes later. All right, friends. Next

00:24:50.160 --> 00:24:55.579
emotion point might be self -image. What do I

00:24:55.579 --> 00:24:58.119
feel about myself right now? What feels heavy

00:24:58.119 --> 00:25:00.559
in the way that I see myself, in the way that

00:25:00.559 --> 00:25:07.220
I'm understanding myself? Am I feeling good in

00:25:07.220 --> 00:25:11.059
that self -esteem and that self -image, emotion?

00:25:11.339 --> 00:25:13.680
Or is there something about that that feels heavy?

00:25:14.799 --> 00:25:18.740
Ooh. And as I'm doing this, I'm just following

00:25:18.740 --> 00:25:21.799
my intuition on it. And where does it go? I'm

00:25:21.799 --> 00:25:25.529
actually feeling it take a little bit. over actually.

00:25:26.470 --> 00:25:28.549
So instead of doing like that nice little dotty

00:25:28.549 --> 00:25:30.809
dot dot thing that I was doing earlier where

00:25:30.809 --> 00:25:34.670
things are splooging, I'm covering a lot of the

00:25:34.670 --> 00:25:37.250
area with with yellow. That felt like the color

00:25:37.250 --> 00:25:40.609
that self -image was coming up for me as I'm,

00:25:40.769 --> 00:25:43.109
there's some things about self -image on that

00:25:43.109 --> 00:25:46.210
emotion point that I'm frustrated with. And so

00:25:46.210 --> 00:25:49.589
yellow just feels a little um overwhelming actually.

00:25:51.029 --> 00:25:54.579
So, overwhelming is another emotion point. that

00:25:54.579 --> 00:25:56.859
you can ask yourself, what am I feeling most

00:25:56.859 --> 00:26:00.460
overwhelmed about right now? And when overwhelming

00:26:00.460 --> 00:26:07.059
comes up in my painting, it takes over. It just

00:26:07.059 --> 00:26:10.400
starts to take over everywhere. For some people,

00:26:10.420 --> 00:26:13.039
that's anger. Now don't worry if your paper starts

00:26:13.039 --> 00:26:14.700
to curl because we're getting it wet. We can

00:26:14.700 --> 00:26:17.039
fix that later too. Some people like to tape

00:26:17.039 --> 00:26:19.900
it down and some people don't. I don't usually

00:26:19.900 --> 00:26:22.630
tape it down, but. watercolor artists that like

00:26:22.630 --> 00:26:29.650
to, that's fine. Notice how this side of my painting

00:26:29.650 --> 00:26:31.930
is looking different than this side of my painting.

00:26:32.609 --> 00:26:35.309
I'm just noticing that, I'm observing it, I'm

00:26:35.309 --> 00:26:38.049
saying, huh, how interesting. Almost as if it's

00:26:38.049 --> 00:26:40.569
somebody else doing it. And that's fine too.

00:26:41.930 --> 00:26:45.990
Okay, self -image. You know, one other emotion

00:26:45.990 --> 00:26:48.430
point that you might ask yourself about too is,

00:26:48.430 --> 00:26:55.960
as we do this, is resentment and shame and guilt.

00:26:57.700 --> 00:27:00.240
So anything that feels like it needs to have

00:27:00.240 --> 00:27:04.759
a moment to be expressed, language it, journal

00:27:04.759 --> 00:27:07.460
it, paint it. That's kind of what we're doing

00:27:07.460 --> 00:27:11.960
is working through some of those things. I just

00:27:11.960 --> 00:27:16.180
kind of like accidentally made a puke orange

00:27:16.180 --> 00:27:22.799
color here and that isn't... very pretty But

00:27:22.799 --> 00:27:25.339
it absolutely fits with the emotions that I'm

00:27:25.339 --> 00:27:29.539
feeling so it will be Pukey looking and that's

00:27:29.539 --> 00:27:34.299
okay That's great Remember we're painting we're

00:27:34.299 --> 00:27:37.200
healing we're painting out kind of ugly feelings

00:27:37.200 --> 00:27:40.660
and ugly thoughts and ugly You know, they can

00:27:40.660 --> 00:27:43.359
be kind of ugly so if it turns out looking ugly

00:27:43.359 --> 00:27:46.859
then it serves its purpose either way Another

00:27:46.859 --> 00:27:48.880
cool thing that you can do and I want to just

00:27:48.880 --> 00:27:52.250
ask you If it feels right for you, you can do

00:27:52.250 --> 00:27:56.490
this. You can make the paint really wet and really

00:27:56.490 --> 00:27:58.369
sloppy. And then if you want to pick up your

00:27:58.369 --> 00:28:01.829
paper and let it drip, it can create a cool effect.

00:28:01.869 --> 00:28:06.029
It's just fun to kind of let that happen. So

00:28:06.029 --> 00:28:10.049
let it happen. You can also leave any areas white

00:28:10.049 --> 00:28:13.250
that you feel like that represents a feeling

00:28:13.250 --> 00:28:15.390
or an emotion as well. If you're like, it feels

00:28:15.390 --> 00:28:18.759
white to me. And that might be like what you

00:28:18.759 --> 00:28:25.319
want that to look like. So we're getting towards

00:28:25.319 --> 00:28:30.799
the end of the painting process of this. And

00:28:30.799 --> 00:28:34.599
I'm going to let you pause the video. I'm gonna

00:28:34.599 --> 00:28:37.960
finish painting out mine. And then we're going

00:28:37.960 --> 00:28:41.200
to actually let this dry. We're gonna let the

00:28:41.200 --> 00:28:44.440
end of this painting finish what we want it to

00:28:44.440 --> 00:28:49.140
do. If you're coloring with crayons or anything,

00:28:49.660 --> 00:28:52.799
you can keep flipping the page as you scribble

00:28:52.799 --> 00:28:56.440
it out. Whatever color and shape, you can just

00:28:56.440 --> 00:28:58.500
grab crayons and say, okay, this is an orange

00:28:58.500 --> 00:29:00.319
and this feels like resentment. And then you

00:29:00.319 --> 00:29:03.319
can just scribble it out. Scribble, scribble,

00:29:03.480 --> 00:29:05.500
scribble until you feel like all of it has left

00:29:05.500 --> 00:29:07.720
your body. Then you turn the page and you do

00:29:07.720 --> 00:29:09.900
another page. You're gonna end up creating a

00:29:09.900 --> 00:29:12.140
whole book. And by the way, at the end of it,

00:29:12.180 --> 00:29:14.099
if you don't want to keep your book, that's okay

00:29:14.099 --> 00:29:20.660
too. You can burn it, you can let it go, whatever

00:29:20.660 --> 00:29:33.160
feels right to you. It all works. If you're using

00:29:33.160 --> 00:29:36.779
watercolor pencil, Don't add any water yet at

00:29:36.779 --> 00:29:39.420
this point in the process. You just use the color

00:29:39.420 --> 00:29:43.940
pencils to color out shapes and Add coloring

00:29:43.940 --> 00:29:47.079
or detail to it in the colored pencil knowing

00:29:47.079 --> 00:29:50.839
that we are going to get it wet later I can do

00:29:50.839 --> 00:29:53.079
a demonstration of that on another video another

00:29:53.079 --> 00:29:55.859
time But watercolor pencils are actually really

00:29:55.859 --> 00:29:58.660
cool for this process It turns out really awesome

00:29:58.660 --> 00:30:01.500
and I'll kind of explain why as we get to the

00:30:01.500 --> 00:30:04.970
next point in our process, but first We do need

00:30:04.970 --> 00:30:09.069
to finish painting out all the heavy feelings.

00:30:10.069 --> 00:30:14.029
Paint until the heavy feels not so heavy, until

00:30:14.029 --> 00:30:17.529
you feel lighter, until you feel that it's come

00:30:17.529 --> 00:30:20.910
out, whatever it looks like, whatever it feels

00:30:20.910 --> 00:30:25.049
like. Pay attention to your body and how it's

00:30:25.049 --> 00:30:27.930
doing if it feels like you need to do a big yawn.

00:30:34.059 --> 00:30:37.000
needed to happen there. It almost looks like

00:30:37.000 --> 00:30:40.680
a volcano is exploding now. Alright so pause

00:30:40.680 --> 00:30:42.660
the video finish your painting and then we will

00:30:42.660 --> 00:30:46.400
talk about what to do once this dries. Alright

00:30:46.400 --> 00:30:50.380
as we're waiting for our painting to dry in the

00:30:50.380 --> 00:30:54.279
healing through art and emotional process sessions

00:30:54.279 --> 00:30:57.440
and workshops that I do we use the time while

00:30:57.440 --> 00:30:59.559
this is drying to do a little bit of journaling

00:30:59.559 --> 00:31:03.730
that I Help guide I have kind of a worksheet

00:31:03.730 --> 00:31:08.490
work Book that I guide my clients my participants

00:31:08.490 --> 00:31:11.769
to kind of go through and analyze what colors

00:31:11.769 --> 00:31:16.309
they have Pulled out what they have used to represent

00:31:16.309 --> 00:31:19.730
the emotion points that we've talked about because

00:31:19.730 --> 00:31:23.150
there is a color guide and I I kind of adapted

00:31:23.150 --> 00:31:26.349
it from Some of the work done at the Institute

00:31:26.349 --> 00:31:28.309
of healing arts where they give us a color guide

00:31:28.309 --> 00:31:32.049
to help guide what sort of colors that a client

00:31:32.049 --> 00:31:34.670
might be pulling out in a session. Obviously,

00:31:34.849 --> 00:31:36.970
in an integrated processing technique session,

00:31:37.329 --> 00:31:39.109
we wouldn't be doing any painting. It would be

00:31:39.109 --> 00:31:41.710
totally visualizing colors as we pull them out,

00:31:41.710 --> 00:31:44.430
as we identify what color an emotion point might

00:31:44.430 --> 00:31:46.769
be. So we might say, that feels really yellow.

00:31:46.930 --> 00:31:49.190
I'm pulling out a lot of yellow as we're visualizing

00:31:49.190 --> 00:31:53.450
it. I have adapted that into an actual art experience,

00:31:53.450 --> 00:31:58.009
but it doesn't have to be. To give you an idea,

00:31:58.349 --> 00:32:00.289
I'm going to show you some work that we've done

00:32:00.289 --> 00:32:03.970
in some other healing through art workshops that

00:32:03.970 --> 00:32:06.269
I've taught. This is another one of mine, but

00:32:06.269 --> 00:32:09.190
this is kind of how I ended up adopting it. So

00:32:09.190 --> 00:32:10.829
you'll be able to see on the video if you are

00:32:10.829 --> 00:32:13.069
watching on YouTube. Again, if you're not watching

00:32:13.069 --> 00:32:14.970
on YouTube, that's fine. You can just listen

00:32:14.970 --> 00:32:16.710
because I am going to kind of go through it and

00:32:16.710 --> 00:32:21.500
talk about it. The color guide helps us to identify

00:32:21.500 --> 00:32:24.980
what might be some things going on. So in this

00:32:24.980 --> 00:32:27.460
painting, you'll see it looks very, this is acrylic,

00:32:27.599 --> 00:32:29.759
but this is very different than the one I just

00:32:29.759 --> 00:32:32.359
showed you, the one we just did together. That's

00:32:32.359 --> 00:32:34.660
because every time I do this, it's a completely

00:32:34.660 --> 00:32:36.460
different emotional experience that we're having.

00:32:37.000 --> 00:32:39.670
So. they're going to look different. And as I

00:32:39.670 --> 00:32:42.630
painted this out, I felt at that time the things

00:32:42.630 --> 00:32:46.269
I was painting were just very, very spiral oriented,

00:32:46.670 --> 00:32:50.009
like colors, but they were also spiraled into

00:32:50.009 --> 00:32:52.710
each other. And you'll see that I used a lot

00:32:52.710 --> 00:32:57.579
of purple. inside the spiral and it's kind of

00:32:57.579 --> 00:33:00.819
spiraled in there with green. So this would tell

00:33:00.819 --> 00:33:03.660
me as a healing facilitator that some of the

00:33:03.660 --> 00:33:06.859
things that I was working through in this process

00:33:06.859 --> 00:33:11.200
had to do with need for approval. Need for approval

00:33:11.200 --> 00:33:16.180
in the green and the purple is associated with

00:33:16.180 --> 00:33:19.119
authority figures. So whatever age that I was

00:33:19.119 --> 00:33:21.660
working on, there was probably a lot of feelings

00:33:21.660 --> 00:33:25.460
like I really wanted approval from an authority

00:33:25.460 --> 00:33:30.680
figure, usually mom or dad, that was happening

00:33:30.680 --> 00:33:34.440
at that place and time. So that just tells me

00:33:34.440 --> 00:33:36.660
there's a lot wrapped up in that. Like I was

00:33:36.660 --> 00:33:42.670
very much integrating like my worth. My feeling

00:33:42.670 --> 00:33:45.069
good about myself was very connected to whether

00:33:45.069 --> 00:33:48.390
or not I was getting that approval or love and

00:33:48.390 --> 00:33:50.569
connection that I was seeking from authority

00:33:50.569 --> 00:33:55.230
figures here in the purple. You'll also see blue.

00:33:55.349 --> 00:33:58.089
Blue is associated with the throat chakra or

00:33:58.089 --> 00:34:02.049
communication. So the blue that comes out might

00:34:02.049 --> 00:34:05.839
be associated with how I felt like. I was communicating

00:34:05.839 --> 00:34:08.559
those needs, how I maybe felt that those needs

00:34:08.559 --> 00:34:12.400
weren't heard or that I felt that I needed to

00:34:12.400 --> 00:34:15.059
say them in a certain way and that it wasn't

00:34:15.059 --> 00:34:18.199
being communicated or maybe I felt that I couldn't

00:34:18.199 --> 00:34:20.719
communicate it at all. I just stayed silent,

00:34:20.860 --> 00:34:24.480
did not express myself, did not say what my feelings

00:34:24.480 --> 00:34:26.920
were or that I was sad. You'll also see that

00:34:26.920 --> 00:34:28.039
in the background of this one, there's a lot

00:34:28.039 --> 00:34:29.800
of yellow. So I want you to pay attention to

00:34:29.800 --> 00:34:31.940
your own painting that you've done today and

00:34:31.940 --> 00:34:34.539
say, what kinds of colors do I notice? Because

00:34:34.539 --> 00:34:36.900
I did a lot of yellow in my painting today, too.

00:34:37.300 --> 00:34:40.780
Yellow has a lot to do with that personal power,

00:34:40.940 --> 00:34:46.239
that solar plexus, that I feel that I can do

00:34:46.239 --> 00:34:49.940
things. I have the confidence to do them. So

00:34:49.940 --> 00:34:53.159
when it's painted out in heavier feelings, that

00:34:53.159 --> 00:34:56.039
kind of associates with I don't feel the self

00:34:56.039 --> 00:34:58.980
-confidence. I don't feel. good about myself,

00:34:58.980 --> 00:35:02.119
I don't feel that I can do it. So once we come

00:35:02.119 --> 00:35:05.059
to, we'll go through the middle of the process.

00:35:05.519 --> 00:35:07.900
Again, that's not something I can translate very

00:35:07.900 --> 00:35:10.820
well through the video, but to kind of sit and

00:35:10.820 --> 00:35:14.719
be able to assess the colors and then get to

00:35:14.719 --> 00:35:18.820
the real heart of it would be, what did I actually

00:35:18.820 --> 00:35:23.400
believe about myself? What was the core belief

00:35:23.400 --> 00:35:26.989
or what was the shame that I held? or that I

00:35:26.989 --> 00:35:31.409
am holding now in all of this emotion. So I like

00:35:31.409 --> 00:35:34.590
to see it as we're kind of digging. When we paint

00:35:34.590 --> 00:35:37.449
out the colors associated with emotions, we're

00:35:37.449 --> 00:35:39.730
just digging. We're digging, we're moving, we're

00:35:39.730 --> 00:35:41.670
moving, we're moving, moving energy out of the

00:35:41.670 --> 00:35:44.250
way because somewhere deep down at the core of

00:35:44.250 --> 00:35:48.889
it is going to be shame. It's somewhere in that

00:35:48.889 --> 00:35:52.199
we're going to address it. So that's why a facilitator

00:35:52.199 --> 00:35:55.320
through this process is very, very, very helpful.

00:35:55.760 --> 00:35:57.579
Yes, you can sit down and you can paint this.

00:35:57.679 --> 00:35:59.780
Yes, you can journal. Yes, you can ask yourself

00:35:59.780 --> 00:36:02.159
a lot of questions. But when you seek someone

00:36:02.159 --> 00:36:04.940
out like myself, who is trained and knows what

00:36:04.940 --> 00:36:08.179
to ask, you are going to uncover so much more

00:36:08.179 --> 00:36:09.840
than what you could be aware of for yourself.

00:36:10.380 --> 00:36:13.159
Because if you can be aware of it yourself, then

00:36:13.159 --> 00:36:16.570
why haven't you, right? So much of who we are

00:36:16.570 --> 00:36:19.389
and what we do is subconscious is because we

00:36:19.389 --> 00:36:22.610
don't know any other way So having a outside

00:36:22.610 --> 00:36:25.489
perspective somebody who is helping us dig in

00:36:25.489 --> 00:36:28.150
and deep and ask those questions and get those

00:36:28.150 --> 00:36:33.670
answers is Really really helpful So if as at

00:36:33.670 --> 00:36:35.949
any time you were talking about this you want

00:36:35.949 --> 00:36:38.750
to? Check out prism healing book a session with

00:36:38.750 --> 00:36:42.349
me or to do the workshop with me I can guarantee

00:36:42.349 --> 00:36:44.630
you we can get a lot more done than what we can

00:36:44.630 --> 00:36:47.909
do here on video today. But as it is a podcast

00:36:47.909 --> 00:36:50.489
episode, we are just really, really, really excited

00:36:50.489 --> 00:36:52.969
to have you here to work through some of this

00:36:52.969 --> 00:36:56.050
stuff as best you can. And so what we're going

00:36:56.050 --> 00:36:58.070
to do after we do the journaling experience and

00:36:58.070 --> 00:36:59.690
we've kind of worked through some of those things

00:36:59.690 --> 00:37:02.070
and we've recognized patterns within ourselves.

00:37:02.469 --> 00:37:05.250
We've recognized actions and behaviors. We've

00:37:05.250 --> 00:37:07.769
recognized what neural pathways got us to those

00:37:07.769 --> 00:37:10.869
behaviors. Why did we do the things we do? Would

00:37:10.869 --> 00:37:14.710
we do it differently if we could? What are some

00:37:14.710 --> 00:37:16.929
new ways that we can get our needs met that we

00:37:16.929 --> 00:37:19.469
have not tried or that we're not currently doing

00:37:19.469 --> 00:37:21.949
because we didn't know that we could? We didn't

00:37:21.949 --> 00:37:25.829
know there was another way? This is just unblocking

00:37:25.829 --> 00:37:28.929
a lot of subconscious stuff. We're just kind

00:37:28.929 --> 00:37:32.130
of blah, blah, blah, like throwing up all this

00:37:32.130 --> 00:37:34.750
subconscious stuff out to look at it and to sort

00:37:34.750 --> 00:37:38.090
it and to make it conscious again. to let our

00:37:38.090 --> 00:37:42.510
conscious mind really say, is this working for

00:37:42.510 --> 00:37:46.210
me? How can I do differently? And then we get

00:37:46.210 --> 00:37:47.989
to do the really fun part with this creative

00:37:47.989 --> 00:37:49.929
experience. We get to look at our painting and

00:37:49.929 --> 00:37:52.329
we can do a couple of different things. You've

00:37:52.329 --> 00:37:53.909
been looking at my painting upside down from

00:37:53.909 --> 00:37:56.369
what I've been looking at it. But when you've

00:37:56.369 --> 00:38:00.469
been working on your painting or your art, you

00:38:00.469 --> 00:38:03.110
get to take these heavy feelings and you get

00:38:03.110 --> 00:38:06.989
to transmute them. They no longer need to represent

00:38:06.989 --> 00:38:10.530
the heavy. They can represent light. So in a

00:38:10.530 --> 00:38:12.570
process, we do something called the clearing.

00:38:13.010 --> 00:38:15.110
And there's a specific statement that we use,

00:38:15.309 --> 00:38:17.989
something we say out loud, something like, I

00:38:17.989 --> 00:38:19.889
clear the negative energies, family patterns,

00:38:20.070 --> 00:38:22.750
and traditions of, and then we list out all the

00:38:22.750 --> 00:38:25.269
things representing all this negative. Well,

00:38:25.750 --> 00:38:29.010
we can say negative, but really it's just heavy

00:38:29.010 --> 00:38:34.159
or self -sabotaging or... not our higher self.

00:38:34.960 --> 00:38:36.960
I don't always love using the word negative,

00:38:37.079 --> 00:38:39.000
but for lack of a better term we'll say negative.

00:38:39.360 --> 00:38:40.960
We're going to clear all those negative energies

00:38:40.960 --> 00:38:42.900
and we're going to replace them with positive

00:38:42.900 --> 00:38:45.400
energies, positive affirmations that really do

00:38:45.400 --> 00:38:49.820
serve us better. So one way we can do that, represented

00:38:49.820 --> 00:38:53.719
in our painting, is we can actually transmute

00:38:53.719 --> 00:38:56.929
this painting into something positive. Now you

00:38:56.929 --> 00:38:59.610
get to take the image you've made and say, is

00:38:59.610 --> 00:39:02.929
there an image that comes from this? Is this

00:39:02.929 --> 00:39:04.710
looking, I'm going to show you the way I painted

00:39:04.710 --> 00:39:08.010
it. This is how it looks the way that the direction

00:39:08.010 --> 00:39:11.530
I painted it, okay? Now it kind of does look

00:39:11.530 --> 00:39:13.469
like it could be something. It looks like it

00:39:13.469 --> 00:39:15.730
could be like a volcano exploding. This could

00:39:15.730 --> 00:39:18.469
be like the ocean with the lava running into

00:39:18.469 --> 00:39:22.309
the ocean. This almost looks like a, I don't

00:39:22.309 --> 00:39:26.389
know what this could be, but you know. Some mist

00:39:26.389 --> 00:39:29.449
or forest or something coming off onto the side

00:39:29.449 --> 00:39:33.110
here. It's very cloudy very mystical looking

00:39:33.110 --> 00:39:35.869
But you know there could be a specific image

00:39:35.869 --> 00:39:38.349
that pops up in your mind And if there is an

00:39:38.349 --> 00:39:40.750
image kind of like you see an image in a cloud

00:39:40.750 --> 00:39:44.989
we can take a marker or a crayon or I'm using

00:39:44.989 --> 00:39:47.889
a sharpie. I love using the sharpies. I actually

00:39:47.889 --> 00:39:51.949
have a Case of sharpies in all colors that I

00:39:51.949 --> 00:39:55.250
could use which if you have those supplies more

00:39:55.250 --> 00:39:57.530
power to you. Use whatever you have, whatever

00:39:57.530 --> 00:40:01.090
you want. I have done this with crayons. I have

00:40:01.090 --> 00:40:03.730
done this with colored pencils. If you did this

00:40:03.730 --> 00:40:07.090
with watercolor pencil and you got all the pencil

00:40:07.090 --> 00:40:11.690
out, like you colored out all your emotions in

00:40:11.690 --> 00:40:14.610
shapes and colors with the colored pencil, the

00:40:14.610 --> 00:40:16.489
beautiful thing about watercolor pencils is now

00:40:16.489 --> 00:40:19.130
you get to add the water and you get to paint

00:40:19.130 --> 00:40:22.769
it. And that is so fun. Oh my gosh. I almost

00:40:22.769 --> 00:40:24.550
wish I had done that today to show you what that's

00:40:24.550 --> 00:40:31.050
like. It's so fun. Oh, there goes my light. One

00:40:31.050 --> 00:40:35.949
second here, see if I can get that back. Well,

00:40:35.949 --> 00:40:38.130
it doesn't look too dark on the screen. Okay,

00:40:38.130 --> 00:40:40.889
so I just lost my light for a second, but I think

00:40:40.889 --> 00:40:44.630
we can still keep going. I don't know where.

00:40:44.909 --> 00:40:47.670
Oh, there it goes. It's back. Oh, it's gone.

00:40:49.599 --> 00:40:54.780
Technical issues, friends. This is my first time

00:40:54.780 --> 00:40:58.659
doing an art demonstration on camera, so of course

00:40:58.659 --> 00:41:02.480
it's gonna happen like that. All right, so watching

00:41:02.480 --> 00:41:04.659
what we do here now, we're gonna take our Sharpie

00:41:04.659 --> 00:41:08.019
marker. We're going to trace out any images that

00:41:08.019 --> 00:41:10.360
we happen to see that would create a picture

00:41:10.360 --> 00:41:13.280
out of this. That's one way that we can do it.

00:41:13.360 --> 00:41:16.440
as we're transmuting it to positive energy. The

00:41:16.440 --> 00:41:18.159
second way that we can do it is we can actually

00:41:18.159 --> 00:41:21.260
do what I just did and flip the image upside

00:41:21.260 --> 00:41:25.199
down from what we did, how we created it. So

00:41:25.199 --> 00:41:28.320
here's the image as I created it, but when I

00:41:28.320 --> 00:41:33.920
flip it upside down to show you this way, a completely

00:41:33.920 --> 00:41:37.579
different feeling might happen when you look

00:41:37.579 --> 00:41:40.739
at it from this perspective. For example, maybe

00:41:40.739 --> 00:41:43.219
you colored something really heavily at the bottom

00:41:43.219 --> 00:41:45.340
of your painting and a lot of darkness at the

00:41:45.340 --> 00:41:48.860
bottom. When you turn it around, that heaviness

00:41:48.860 --> 00:41:50.820
is now gonna be at the top of your painting and

00:41:50.820 --> 00:41:53.960
it's gonna create a different feeling or emotion.

00:41:54.880 --> 00:41:57.300
Sometimes I've seen, we've done activities where

00:41:57.300 --> 00:42:00.599
we do this and we'll paint out what we feel like

00:42:00.599 --> 00:42:03.820
is a problem that we're having and then flip

00:42:03.820 --> 00:42:07.139
it upside down and now. Look at it and say now

00:42:07.139 --> 00:42:10.440
if this were the solution to my problem. What

00:42:10.440 --> 00:42:13.500
would this painting be telling me? And yeah,

00:42:13.559 --> 00:42:16.059
it takes a little practice to become that intuitive

00:42:16.059 --> 00:42:21.239
or in or kind of Abstract because that is an

00:42:21.239 --> 00:42:23.900
abstract way of thinking is to be like all these

00:42:23.900 --> 00:42:27.059
uh This these shapes and colors have now become

00:42:27.059 --> 00:42:31.519
a solution And I get it. It's not as cut dry

00:42:31.519 --> 00:42:36.079
as Asking chat GPT or AI What do you think the

00:42:36.079 --> 00:42:38.599
solution to my problem would be and letting them

00:42:38.599 --> 00:42:41.480
kind of work it out for you? This is actually

00:42:41.480 --> 00:42:44.719
tapping into your own intuition your own knowledge

00:42:44.719 --> 00:42:48.519
and wisdom Deep down in the very recesses of

00:42:48.519 --> 00:42:51.380
your subconscious. What answers do I already

00:42:51.380 --> 00:42:54.960
have? tapped into the collective consciousness

00:42:54.960 --> 00:42:59.139
that I can pull from right So what we can actually

00:42:59.139 --> 00:43:01.940
do is we can sit here And if you don't want to

00:43:01.940 --> 00:43:04.239
create an image, that's okay, because second

00:43:04.239 --> 00:43:07.579
option is to just go through and actually just

00:43:07.579 --> 00:43:13.360
trace every line and shape that you see. You're

00:43:13.360 --> 00:43:15.659
not going to see me do this on the entire thing,

00:43:15.920 --> 00:43:18.900
but this is essentially what it would look like.

00:43:19.360 --> 00:43:22.780
I highly recommend putting on some very meditative

00:43:22.780 --> 00:43:28.260
music, ethereal, Enya maybe, meditative music,

00:43:28.360 --> 00:43:34.190
and just let yourself... Sit and trace every

00:43:34.190 --> 00:43:41.530
single line where the colors dried and where

00:43:41.530 --> 00:43:48.909
it created watermarks like this. And as you do

00:43:48.909 --> 00:43:52.929
that, you're gonna feel all of the energy in

00:43:52.929 --> 00:43:57.659
you just lighten. All right, we'll show you a

00:43:57.659 --> 00:43:59.480
picture at the very end of what it looks like

00:43:59.480 --> 00:44:02.699
when it's all done for mine, but I want to see

00:44:02.699 --> 00:44:05.280
your images of what your painting looks like,

00:44:05.300 --> 00:44:09.380
so please send them in to me. You can go to my

00:44:09.380 --> 00:44:13.039
Instagram at Practically Magic Pot, whoop, there's

00:44:13.039 --> 00:44:16.980
a light again. Let there be light. Practically

00:44:16.980 --> 00:44:20.539
Magic podcast on Instagram and you can send me

00:44:20.539 --> 00:44:24.159
in my DMs or I'll share or tag me in your pictures

00:44:24.159 --> 00:44:27.400
on your Instagram so that I can see them. That

00:44:27.400 --> 00:44:29.239
would be awesome. Share them in your stories

00:44:29.239 --> 00:44:31.659
and tag me and then I can share them in my stories.

00:44:31.699 --> 00:44:34.260
That would be so fun just to see everybody's

00:44:34.260 --> 00:44:35.659
different Healing Through Art paintings that

00:44:35.659 --> 00:44:38.619
you did. Again, you can sign up for a Healing

00:44:38.619 --> 00:44:40.679
Through Art, Inner Child Healing Through Art

00:44:40.679 --> 00:44:45.139
art class. I have a course starting very soon.

00:44:45.230 --> 00:44:47.429
It will start at the end of September, and it

00:44:47.429 --> 00:44:50.429
will run until December. We meet once a month

00:44:50.429 --> 00:44:53.090
in person, and we do this Healing Through Art

00:44:53.090 --> 00:44:56.329
workshop, different themes each month. But we

00:44:56.329 --> 00:44:59.750
also meet on Zoom every week during the time

00:44:59.750 --> 00:45:01.769
that the course is running. So this is for adults

00:45:01.769 --> 00:45:04.719
only. But I have my other art classes. Heart

00:45:04.719 --> 00:45:07.019
Smart Art is for kids, and that is going to meet

00:45:07.019 --> 00:45:09.579
once a month as well, from September to December.

00:45:09.920 --> 00:45:12.400
It's a two -hour workshop for kids about five

00:45:12.400 --> 00:45:15.079
to nine years old. And then I have a weekly art

00:45:15.079 --> 00:45:17.420
class called Myth and Magic Art Class. That's

00:45:17.420 --> 00:45:20.340
an hour and a half every week. We do art lessons,

00:45:20.719 --> 00:45:26.039
and we read mythology, and we learn how to unblock

00:45:26.039 --> 00:45:31.199
our creativity with projects that are less Less

00:45:31.199 --> 00:45:35.579
pressure, I would say. And as we finish up, don't

00:45:35.579 --> 00:45:38.480
forget about our event. We're doing Practical

00:45:38.480 --> 00:45:42.099
Magic 2 screening on September 10th. We want

00:45:42.099 --> 00:45:43.880
to see you there, so if you haven't won your

00:45:43.880 --> 00:45:46.219
tickets yet, please go to Ride the Wave Media

00:45:46.219 --> 00:45:48.659
and enter to win. You have to subscribe to this

00:45:48.659 --> 00:45:51.239
podcast, so make sure that you're subscribed.

00:45:51.760 --> 00:45:55.420
And if you enjoyed this episode... please share

00:45:55.420 --> 00:45:57.920
it with a friend. It would help me so, so much.

00:45:58.079 --> 00:46:01.679
And yes, my paintings are for sale. So let me

00:46:01.679 --> 00:46:04.039
know if you would like to purchase one of the

00:46:04.039 --> 00:46:07.960
paintings that I have available. I'm gonna be

00:46:07.960 --> 00:46:10.139
at the farmer's market selling some of my paintings

00:46:10.139 --> 00:46:13.179
here in South Jordan locally. So reach out to

00:46:13.179 --> 00:46:16.780
me if you wanna see. What's for sale? I sell

00:46:16.780 --> 00:46:19.380
my art very cheap because it just helps to fund

00:46:19.380 --> 00:46:21.360
the art supplies and things for the projects

00:46:21.360 --> 00:46:24.400
that I work on. So, you know, if you have $5,

00:46:24.400 --> 00:46:28.000
$10, $20 to spare, my paintings are very reasonably

00:46:28.000 --> 00:46:30.440
priced and they do end up looking very lovely.

00:46:30.980 --> 00:46:34.480
So if you would like one, let me know. Here's

00:46:34.480 --> 00:46:36.199
