Christmas Movie Debate Comments Get Wild! | Parallel Frequencies
🎄 Die Hard vs. It’s a Wonderful Life: What Actually Makes a Christmas Movie?
Is Die Hard a Christmas movie… or just a movie set at Christmas? And if that’s the case, what does that make It’s a Wonderful Life? In this episode of Parallel Frequencies with Just Blane and Coco, a seemingly harmless holiday debate spirals into comment-section chaos, unexpected film theory, and one truly unhinged but oddly convincing comparison.
Blane and Coco break down viral audience reactions, explore whether Christmas movies are defined by plot, setting, or tradition, and ask the real question: who gets to decide what counts? Along the way, they connect dots between action films, classic cinema, angels, holiday vibes, and personal nostalgia. From Lethal Weapon entering the chat to the bold claim that some beloved classics could exist without Christmas at all, this conversation blends pop culture analysis with humor and zero gatekeeping.
The episode ultimately lands on a refreshing conclusion: your traditions are valid, your Christmas movies are your own, and the internet might just enjoy arguing more than celebrating. Whether you’re team explosions, angels, or Art the Clown in a Santa suit, this one will spark laughs and debate long after the credits roll.

put out an episode, I guess on Christmas day here looks like, and it's Die Hard versus It's a Wonderful Life. And the comments got a little wild. This one right here says, neither Die Hard nor It's a Wonderful Life are Christmas movies, which I can see that and I'll get to that. The next one, Watch It Every Christmas Followed by Home Alone, both Christmas movies.
Courtney Pearl (00:10)
Mmm.
Just Blane (00:25)
Then you got Die Hard isn't a Christmas movie. It's a movie set at Christmas. Whoa, wait a minute. We'll get into my thoughts on that. And then here's the one that got me. And I got to looking into this a little deeper, but It's a Wonderful Life and Lethal Weapon are the same movie. This call me it's not wrong.
Courtney Pearl (00:45)
Okay.
Just Blane (00:45)
It's not wrong. Both movies have the exact same story arcs. You even got the angel on the side. It's not clearance. It's Murdaugh or whatever on the other side. Like it's all there. I don't want to get too crazy into that right now, but that's that's an insane theory. They are the same movie.
Courtney Pearl (01:03)
I could see it. I could see it.
Just Blane (01:04)
Lethal,
when people argue Die Hard is a Christmas movie, they should be throwing Lethal Weapon in there because that is a Christmas movie.
Courtney Pearl (01:11)
And I am of the belief that everybody is right. Everybody is a little bit right. I don't feel very strongly one side or the other. I'm like, yeah, if it's a Christmas movie for you and you wanna watch Die Hard or Lethal Weapon every Christmas, do it. It's your Christmas movie. It's your Christmas. You do whatever you want, right?
Just Blane (01:32)
I mean,
if we wanna get real, real about it, T.A.R.R.I.R.3.E. is more Christmas movie than any of these with Art the Clown dressed as Santa Claus and that's the whole plot. That's part of the plot. It's not just the set in the movie. So T.A.R.R.I.R.3.E. is more Christmas movie than It's a Wonderful Life, Throw the Hate at Me, Die Hard and Lethal Weapon. Maybe not Lethal Weapon, I don't know. But I think so, I think that's how it goes. But you see.
Courtney Pearl (01:45)
True.
Yeah. Well, you know,
actually speaking of it's a wonderful life, I saw a preview for the life of Chuck and I haven't seen that movie yet, but they're calling it the modern day. It's a wonderful life. So that's on my list of to be watched.
Just Blane (02:07)
Now I had to check that.
Now the one comment that said, you know, neither are Christmas movies. And then there was another that said, well, they're Christmas movies. And then another one said, well, it's just set at Christmas. Well, then there's your argument. Die hard and it's a wonderful life are just set at Christmas time. So are they Christmas movies or are they not Christmas movies? Because if you watch it's a wonderful life, there is nothing in a plot about Christmas. It doesn't matter when it happens.
Courtney Pearl (02:33)
Yeah, mean,
angels, angels can be around all year. It doesn't have to be Christmas time. But I guess the gauge for that is can you just lift the portion of it that's Christmas out? And it's essentially the same movie. Is that the way we're judging that?
Just Blane (02:39)
No!
I
I guess it could be. I don't know. Well, somebody in the comments will get back at us and they'll get the heat. They'll get heated up again about this Christmas stuff, know? These Christmas movies. Like you said, I like what you said. Watch whatever.
Courtney Pearl (03:01)
Yeah.
Yeah, you do you. know, ⁓ 10 Commandments is and forever will be an Easter movie for ⁓ my dad, even though it's technically shown around Easter time because it's Passover. My dad said growing up though, he remembered that playing on TV every Easter. So that's kind of his tradition is to watch 10 Commandments at Easter time.
Just Blane (03:12)
Yoo hoo you!
Okay, yeah.
totally get that. I totally could see that, you know? Gathering around the Christmas tree, watching Ten Commandments, watching whatever you think is a Christmas. I watch Terrifier 3. I like Art the Clown. You know, that's me.
Courtney Pearl (03:39)
Did you?
Okay, yeah,
I'm not, and I'm not gonna stand in your way.
