Stevie Is Not Joining a Stanford Prison Experiment Redo, Please Stop Asking
In This Episode
This week the girls got into it about Stanford's prison experiment and whether anyone would survive being handed a badge and a power trip.
- Stacie and Aubrey walked through the Stanford prison experiment, which ran only days before the guards and prisoners turned on each other, and the group debated whether a "let's do it again" version is a terrible idea (spoiler: they think so).
- Stevie admitted she judges people in the car, and the rest of the table was not having it: Stacie called out her own horn habits and Aubrey confessed to saying "sorry" out loud when she's in the wrong.
- Stacie told the story of sleep-deprived driving, a wrong turn onto a sidewalk-looking street, and the very public apology she yelled out her window at a bewildered crowd.
- Jamie and Stacie got into the Halloween vs. Christmas decorating war, including a neighbor who already has the Christmas lights up in October and a black Christmas tree wrapped in a witch.
- The group ended up planning a cabin Christmas with real trees, gingerbread, and questionable oven skills, with Aubrey campaigning hard for Venezuelan Christmas cookies.
New episode every week. Grab a taco and catch up with the girls.

Welcome to TIFFSY Tats and Tacos. Where we talk about life and all of its bullshit. Y'all, parental discretion is advised. Watcha kids. Listen if you fucking want to.
I'm hit and miss with documentaries. Like I really am. I used to love them. And this is a funny story because my husband likes to rub it in my fucking face That when we first met, I told him I loved watching documentaries. And then anytime, like I think it was like a month after that, anytime that he wanted to watch a documentary, I was like, no, I'm good.
I don't want to watch this. No, I'm good. But then anytime my roommate and I watched a doc, I'd like come back and be like, Oh my God, my roommate and I watched this really great documentary. My roommate happened to be a guy. And he was like, fuck that guy.
You never want to watch documentaries with me. Loser. And so now he pokes fun at me that how much I loved quote unquote documentaries, but that I never wanted to watch one with him. I was like, because I had run out of my documentary era. And then I met you.
And so at the time, I did love watching documentaries. I was taking a break. Yeah. And now it's kind of like hit and miss. Sometimes you have to take a break from documentaries.
It's hit and miss. It gets too serious. Yeah. Yeah. And I love horror movies.
But I love documentaries. But sometimes I just have to watch like Step Brothers or something. Anchorman. No, but this is funny because like I love horror movies, but I'm not a huge fan of like true crime because it's a little too realistic. What?
I'm a victim of a lot of shit that happened to me. That a lot of true crime documentaries are about or start off at. So like it's really hard for me to like get into them. So I have to go to Jamie's and then she'll subject me to like a true crime documentary. And I'll be like, oh my God, dude, I have to watch them with a friend.
I don't think I can watch them by myself. I think that's where I'm at. Yeah. I love true crime. I love true crime.
And I listened to a lot more podcasts and watched a lot more true crime before I had my daughter, because now when we're talking about abduction, I'm already I'm already on the fence about abduction. Like I fucking I can't because it's true crime. I can't. I'm already on edge about that shit. I already freak out.
At her at the store when she runs off, like I. Seriously, I freak out more than I want to. But it's like, don't fucking do that. Like, unfortunately, in this world, like almost hard. I'm just sick.
So I like those things. And I like watching other documentaries like Auschwitz or like I like watching those things because I am so curious about the human mind and like, what the fuck are they thinking? Like, how are these people wired and programmed and and how do they come across to other people? Like, you know, like it's like psychology and sociology is what really gets me watching these things. And so that's why I watch Tiger King, because I was like more interested in that aspect.
Stevie, you have your hand up. You mentioned like wanting to understand what goes on in people's brains. Yeah. Yes. So all the psychology classes I took and I'm about to take to finish up my degree.
Did you guys hear? That Stanford wants to do the prison experience again. No. Are you fucking kidding me? Why?
They're like they're thinking of doing it again. Why? And like changing some of the parameters. But they want they're curious if enough time has passed. If the same thing would happen, I was like 100 percent the same thing is a million percent.
Are you dumb? Hold on. Hold on. I have no idea what you're talking about. OK.
Stanford University did a experience or experiment where they divided a group of students. And honestly, Stacie Aubrey called me out on this, but they took a group of students and they split them. Half of them were prisoners, half of them were prison guards. And go and see what happens. So they were acting as those things.
And I can't remember. Did they do it for like a month? Was it a month or was it less? I think it was like within five days, there was already a time. I think it was actually less than that.
Maybe three days. It was like within days. It was already a traumatic experience for both parties. Like it. And it was just acting.
No, it wasn't acting. It was a real experiment. So the guards thought like. The students who were prisoners were truly prisoners. And then the students who were guards.
They're not. Well, they're not an actor. So the prisoners didn't know the guards were other students. They thought they were truly guards. And then the guards thought the students were actual prisoners.
So that was I think the experiment. You went into it thinking like, OK, I'm the actor and these are real people. And then the other people felt the same. Everyone else. But it was like an experiment to see how much your mind.
Like how much of it is just like you're going to go in like acting and come out like the same like, you know, they want to see like, oh, no, I'm not really in prison. So it's not going to really affect me type of thing. Or I'm not really a guard, but like I will like. And that's how I think like all like each side started off like I'm not really a guard. But like I can try to keep people in check or whatever else, you know, but no, like the the ego, the egos and like the power that got to the people who were the guards.
I'm sure. Like how do they think that they're not going to get the same outcome? Like what the fuck? I genuinely don't know. Like it worries me.
And who the fuck is going to sign up? I hope nobody signs up for it. Yeah, it's not. You know, people are going to. I know people.
Well, it's like, OK, if you sign up for this. Well, you don't know if you're going to be a prisoner or a guard. But I could see like some douchebag boys signing up for it, hoping that they get to be a guard. To have a trip. And I think that was the problem with the initial experience or the experiment experience is people started to lean into like, well, how far can I take this?
How far can I act like this? How far can I torture this person? Like, am I going to get in trouble if I push it just another level? If I, you know, just a little farther, just a little farther. And like I said, it was within days, not months, like days.
Maybe even hours, honestly, for some people. But like it was it was supposed to be like a year long experiment or something. Like it was supposed to be a really long time and they had to stop it like significantly sooner because there was yes. So like Stacie said, so much abuse. And it went wilder and farther than I think the people who thought the experiment through quote unquote, which obviously they didn't.
It went well outside of their comfort zone of like, wow, we didn't realize humans could be this awful to each other. Surprise, surprise. No one surprised. Like, yeah, humans can be fucking awful to each other. But yeah, no, they they've been talking about wanting to do it again.
And I'm just like, no, we were shown that in every psychology class I've ever taken. Every time I talk to someone about psychology, it comes up like this is still very much engraved in all of our brains. Please don't bring this back. Crazy. You're enabling this like horrible behavior.
Where was this aired? Like Netflix or? Oh, well, before the world of Netflix. Well, I watched a documentary on it. Well, I'm sorry.
I'm sure they've done documentaries since. But the experiment video that I remember watching my psychology class was probably like a Stanford provided video. Let's see, Stanford. No, I watched a documentary. There's a 2015 movie.
Or maybe. Yeah. And it was like the guy who created the experiment. He talked about it. Interesting.
Yeah. Yeah. So what did the Stanford experiment prove? That situational powers can make ordinary psychologically healthy people commit cruel and abusive acts. So let's do it again.
Let's do it again. It's a great idea. And people who are already psychologically cuckoo. Bananas. What?
What do you think happens? Well, that's just it. Put in those type of power situations. I don't know. Let's look at the Cheeto.
Well, no, but the ha. I think that was part of the problem is like these somewhat normal students went into this experiment and probably underlying fucking issues came out. A lot of people. I don't know. Like I was I've always been curious.
Like I feel like I'm a decent human being. But if I were thrown into that scenario, like what I end up being awful, like I don't know. I think you go. It's the survival of the fittest man. You survive with how I would hope that I'm a decent enough human being that even in like these very awful conditions, I could still be a decent human being.
Yeah, I don't think like if I'm really thinking about myself and who I am, I don't think I would go into like power hungry mode just because like I'm already like when I look at people, I try not to like judge no matter like how they look. I'm more of like a curious. I wonder what kind of struggles they're going through or, you know, like for for like homeless people or even people in jail or druggies. It's like they went through something to get there. You know what I mean?
Like they didn't just say I want to be this. They went through some shit to get in that place. And sure, some of it was choice, but it was, you know, choice by perception or maybe maybe they didn't have much of a choice in the matter, depending on the situation. So it's like I kind of more like I feel bad for them sometimes, but I feel more sympathy for them. You know, like there's still people they might be some of them might still pieces of shit, but like I'm not going to get all like, you know, power.
Fuck you. I'm not going to lie. I can be judgmental. Like I'm just going to call myself out on that. I can be I can be very judgmental.
I can also try to also see. See, like you do, like try to see like, OK, I'm judging, but let me take a step back. Yeah, I know my background. I know that I always have a safe place to land. Family, friends, like I've got a good circle of people around my life that if I were to start spiraling, someone would check on me.
Maybe this person doesn't have that. Yeah, exactly. And like maybe I don't need to be judging as harshly because it's easy for me to say like, oh, that's so easy to get out of. And like, I can't believe they let themselves like fall down this far. Blah, blah, blah.
But maybe they didn't have like a secure blanket like I do that cares about me and will check up on me and like, oh, my God, we haven't heard from Stevie in like a couple of months. What the hell is going on? Right. So like I I'm not going to lie. I do judge.
Not always, but I can't act like I'm the same. I I I judge definitely before I have to like tell myself to take a step back. I mean, like, all right, stop judging. You bitch. You bitch.
What is going on? I find myself judging more and I can't seem to get out of it when I'm driving. Driving brings out this anger in me. Yeah, literally like the some of the memes are like gifts you'll see or like just some of the short like videos on Instagram or whatever where it's like, Peace, calm and love. Today's going to be a mate.
What the fuck are you doing, you idiot? Like, are you fucking kidding me right now? Like, that's me in the car. 100%. I'm that guy in the video singing where he's just like, you know, just having the time of his life.
And then all of a sudden, the red light has turned green and the car hasn't moved. Fucking God. Yeah. Seriously. Same.
And I'm I am horn happy. I love my horn. I have. Yeah, no, I have my partner's always like, I'll always tell my partner if like they're driving and the person's not going, I'm honk your fucking horn. What are you doing?
He'll be like, no, why? And I'm like, that is what your horn is for. Like, same. You don't have to do it mean, but like, Kate, if they're not going. You need to make them aware the light is fucking green.
Go. That's not true. I don't always do it mean. He's like, be patient. I'm like, I can't.
I'm sorry. On the road, it's gone. I'm sorry. No, there were a couple of moments that I've had to use my horn. I feel like rightfully so.
I was pulling into a Costco parking lot and a car did not stop at their stop sign. Yeah. And almost ran into me. So I laid on my horn because they had turned in front of me and were trying to park. And so I'm like following them laying on my horn a bit.
My husband just looks at me and he's like, can you not? You're like, no, no. I want them to feel embarrassed. They almost hit us. Yeah.
And that would have been your side of the car. And I would have been pissed if they had hurt you. Yeah. So no, I don't feel bad about this at all. Dude, some bee-otch at Costco.
I had gotten gas and then I was leaving. I was leaving to get on the freeway because I got gas in the morning and so I was heading to work. But I'm in the lane where you just go. And the ones that come from the side, you have to stop and wait your fucking turn until someone lets you out. Or there's a clear spot.
Right? That's how the traffic rules fucking work. It's not a four-way fucking stop. And so I'm going and this bitch tries to like just come out at me and dude, when people get aggressive, I get more fucking aggressive. Don't try to force your way in front of me because I will not let you fucking in front of me.
If I feel nice, you might get in front of me, but don't force your way in front of me. And this bitch comes. She's trying to come out and I was like, fuck you. And then she starts yelling out the window like at me. Like she like I'm in the wrong and I was like, fuck you bitch.
Like, are you kidding me right now? Why does that always happen? And it's like, am I the asshole? No, I'm not the asshole. If you dumb bitch don't know how to drive and you don't know the rules of the fucking road, that's your own fucking fault.
Be mad at me all you want. I'm going to drive on and live a happy fucking life. Bye. I do have that, but I also have like the underlying guilt of like, did I do something wrong? No, I didn't.
Maybe I did. I do not. I have no underlying guilt. Oh, it's still there. I know.
I got a few more years before my like fuck all kicks in. Dude, I know when I'm in the right and when I'm in the wrong. I am a little, I am a little the problem. If I was in the wrong, I'd be like, sorry, sorry, sorry. I did it anyway, but I'm sorry.
I'm sorry. You guys say it out loud. I actually say it out loud. I do too. I do say it out loud.
I'm like, I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'll be like, my bad, my bad. Yeah.
Oh, I don't do that. I don't let them have access to me. I felt like I had to. No. Let me tell you about this day, you guys.
I had gotten maybe an hour of sleep. Oh no. And so I was running on fumes. I'm not in my right mind. I don't know why I got behind the car.
Honestly, that's on me. Yeah. 100%. But I live right around the corner from like a dollar general. Honestly, I could have walked there.
I should have walked there, but I chose to drive. That would have taken more energy and you already had zero. Yeah. That's exactly where my brain was. But this is how I'm so glad there were like three cars on the road that day.
Like I still think about it and it makes my heart like beat like crazy. Like it's already like beating ridiculous. So I needed to run a dollar general. I didn't need to. I chose to run to dollar general last minute for something.
Probably like a cosplay costume or something. I don't know. To complete your costume. Something like creative. I don't know.
I needed some crafts. I was like, I'm not going to spend a lot of money. I'm running over to dollar general. Or dollar tree. I forget what's right around me.
And there are, how do I explain my street without giving away where I live? There are, you know how like some sidewalks have like an indention of like where a car can turn, but it's mostly just decorative. It doesn't, it's not a car can't actually turn there, but the sidewalk breaks. So it looks like there's that space for like a driveway. It used to be, but maybe they've repurposed it.
And honestly, there's like a little business that I drive by that maybe that was their intention and they ran out of money or I don't know. It leads nowhere. That brake leads nowhere. Nowhere. And as a half asleep person, I 100% thought, oh, that's my turn.
Because it's right before the actual turn for Dollar Tree or Dollar General. Oh, oh. So guess where this bitch turned and then realized last minute. Oh shit. That's not a turn.
And then I'm now driving on the wrong side of the road. Oh shit. To try to get back to the middle lane to get to my actual turn. There were only two cars and they were well out of the way. But can you imagine if it was like a busy afternoon?
Oh my God. Like someone could have gotten hurt because I was the asshole. Me. I was 100% involved. But that was me rolling down my window going, I'm so sorry.
I'm so sorry. Like yelling it out my window. Getting flipped off. People like honking. I'm like, I know.
I know. It's me. I know. Yeah. I did it.
It's me. Oh God. I lose. I probably still wouldn't have rolled down my window, but I probably would have been like, I'm sorry. I'm sorry.
I know I'm sorry. I kind of thought about it afterwards. But then I'm like, oh, I know these people. In that same breath, I was like, oh shit. I kind of know these people.
I should stay anonymous. But I didn't. It's fine. I'm sure someone out there is like, oh my God, remember that girl that almost drove us off the road? Was she drunk that day?
I mean, I'm sure people thought it, but I 100% was like just sleep deprived. And it was... Yeah. No excuse, honestly. Those are the worst days to drive.
You can't. Dude, I hate it. Jamie was with me last week, maybe the week before. I hate it when I'm driving and just, I don't know, it's a stupid people day. Stupid people just keep doing repeatedly stupid things.
One car, two car, three car, four car. And I'm just like, when those days happen, I'm like, I need to get home. I need to get home because there are too many stupid people on the road right now. I'm going to lose my mind. I do.
I'm like, multiple things kept happening by different people. What is happening? I was like, okay, this is a day where I can't drive. I have to, I need to get home. I can't.
I have been going into work earlier in the morning. Because normally I'll work a few hours at home and then I'll drive in. I would say that the earlier you go, probably better because there's not as many stupid people. But I don't know. You tell me.
The last three days, I'm in my office chair by six. Damn, that's weird. There is that weird. So the company I work for, a lot of the manufacturing folks. All the way up there by six?
What time do you leave? Like 530. You guys, I'm not getting any sleep. I dislike this. I'm dying.
I dislike this for you too. Well, it's like while I'm up, I might as well just fucking go to work. Like I'm awake. I would probably do the same. I do the same thing.
And I work with Eastern time zone people. Yeah, I work with French companies. So it's like, this is the perfect time to get a meeting with them. Because by 9 a.m., it's like they're 6 p.m. They're ready to fucking go home.
They're not paying attention. But at 5 a.m., I'm getting them like right before they get the sleepies, the afternoon sleepies. That's true. So it's like perfect time for me to like chat with them 6 a.m. Like great.
The only thing is, it's weird, is because we work 12. There are manufacturing folks that work 12 hour shifts, six to six. When I'm pulling in to park, there are people that like are fucking rushing to go home. I'm like, listen, I get it. Let me get out of your way.
Like I did not work a 12 hour. I slept for an hour, two. You're like, I got some sleep. First of all, I'm not all here. So we're just going to put that on the table.
Not to scare our listeners. I promise I'm not driving anymore when I cannot function. That she learned her lesson on the first day. You guys, that was just like around the corner from my house. People drive like that?
I'm sure that if it was more busy and cars were on that side, you probably would have. Like I don't think you would have done what you did if there were more cars on the road, because you would have seen cars, right? Or I've been waiting for them and I would have loved to been like, wow, this is not where I need it. Maybe. I love that you have this positivity outlook for me.
I think you're wrong, but I appreciate it. Well, I'm still going to give you the benefit of the doubt. We're still going to do that. Yes. Because I love you and I have faith in you.
You gotta have faith. You gotta have faith. Do you not know that song? Oh, I definitely do. Speaking of judgment.
It was a little bit off, right? I wasn't sure where to come in at. I don't know that song well enough. Let me Google it. It's my faith.
George Michael. George Michael. It is George Michael. Hey, George Michael. Why did Limp Bizkit cover Faith?
That came up. That's a good question. That's a really good question. I definitely did not like their version as well. No.
Oh, he covered it as a rowdy live crowd pleaser that turned into their breakout hit. All right, Limp Bizkit. No, wrong. I'm like hit. I don't know.
I feel like that's a stretch. Did you know that George Michael died on Christmas? No. What? He died on Christmas?
When? What year? December 25, 2016 at 53. I didn't know he died on Christmas. How did he die?
Sad. He passed away from a dilated cardiomyopathy with myocarditis and fatty liver. Oh, fatty liver. Left ventricle of the heart was stretched and weakened and then inflammation of the heart muscle and fatty liver involves buildup of the fat. A little further.
Sad. It's funny that I can't pronounce any of these words. My friend who's a nurse who's in grad school sent me an accidental copy paste of her questions for like a test that she was taking. And I got all of them right. I was like, oh my God, I can be a nurse now.
She's like, shut up. I'm like, no, I got them all right. She's like, you got five answers right. I'm like, and? I can practice.
She's like, there were like 150. I'm like, well, I'm five questions in. I got it. I got this in the bag. I'm 100% correct at this point.
So let's go. All the questions you've asked me have gotten right. Winning. So let's do this. So I'm Nurse Stevie.
Send me five more. That's how I would like you all to address me moving forward. Thank you. Fine. I'm going to change your how, how, what is it?
What is it? I'm going to change you on my phone to this. Nurse Stevie. Or should I do Stevie MD and like fully go for the doctorate? I, I don't know.
Go full in, I would say. But all right, Stevie MD. Okay. I can do it. Or was it Stevie PMP MD?
There you go. Oh, no. Oh, we lost. Oh, no. What should I do?
We were just having some audio issues today. Hey. We lost Stacie. Maybe she'll come back. She might just be done.
Blane, I don't want the next like few seconds out. It's very echo-y still. I don't know if you guys are getting any echo. No echo. Not a single bit.
No. There is a like arrow on your mic. That says echo cancellation. I don't know if it's on my end or your end. I can't turn it on because I have headphones on.
It's on. Which is probably the main problem. Ours is on. And I'm at EastJK's and it's on too. Well, if we're like the main hub, maybe all echo shit will be canceled.
Echo shit. That's the- If she says I got booted, can you resend me the link? That's the terminology. Okay. Just so you know.
No, this is on me. I don't need to have these, but I'm worried that you guys are going to pick up. My door is closed and everything, but- You're worried that what? Well, no, you guys were going to pick up like Strider whining or [REDACTED] coming in. I haven't heard a single thing except you.
No, I haven't heard anything. Well, no, that's why I have these headphones, provided by work. Provided by? Yeah, for B.M.R.U. bows.
Well, she's not in the Google making anymore. That's why. So, I mean, I don't know what else we wanted to talk about, but considering that it is- Did you guys hear that? October. That's beautiful.
What? I don't know. The ice? My wine pour. It was a beautiful- That was a crisp wine pour.
It was. Crisp. I thought you were like swirling some ice. No, that was a clean pour. I wish my video would catch that.
I don't know if you know this, but I can't see your video. I don't know if you did that on purpose. No, I had to turn it off because my network was networking. That's fine. It was like, I didn't see what you did, but what it sounded like.
I wish we- Okay, Blane, keep that one in. Just the wine pour. Totes. We should talk about October also and the fun happenings. Halloween.
Okay, who was it? Oh, my aunt. I was talking to my aunt the other day. You know my aunt's from California. Their dog died.
Sad. I cried. I know. I was on the phone with her and they'll be in town in a couple of weeks. I was like, yeah, my sister's birthday is the day before Halloween.
It's like, yeah, I'll be there for my sister's birthday and Halloween. She was like, oh, but I'm not partaking in any of the Halloween things. She's like, you kids go out and have your fun. I was like, excuse me? I don't participate in the Halloween things anymore either.
I participate in trick or treating due to my daughter. That, my friend, is the extent of the Halloween things I participate in. She was like, really? She's like, I'm too old to do any of that shit anymore. I was like, same.
You guys. I don't party anymore. I haven't even decorated this. I haven't decorated. That's not true.
You have skellies. But those are always up all year. I'm always dead. So is my house. Wow, that was a very slurry statement.
So is my house. The wine's kicking in. I have a little witch that I like to like wrap her around the tree. The one that's splashed up against the tree. Yeah, she looks like she smacked into the tree.
It cracks me up when you wrap your Christmas tree out. No, I don't have that up yet. Aubrey, you will be so. We actually thought about putting it up this weekend just for the record. I mean, yes, it would be on par.
It's not a. For sure. It sounds like you. Christmasy. For sure.
You'll be very proud of me. So the tree out of Mikasa. Yeah, I wrapped the witch around. She looks like she smacked into it, but I haven't even got that. And my daughter keeps asking me, Mom, when are we going to put the witch on the tree?
And I was like. Yeah, we're going to do that. We need to put it up. Yeah, we put up a Christmas tree before Gage passed away and then decorated it with Halloween stuff so that he could celebrate Halloween because he didn't make it that far. I know.
So that's what we we actually were. My mom was going to give it to my older son this year so that he could decorate it for Halloween before. Oh, you should do that. I thought about doing that myself, actually. Put my tree up.
Yeah. Decorate it for Halloween. Technically, I have all you losers beat. I have a black Christmas tree up. You have that currently decorated with Halloween decor that will then get swapped to Christmas decor.
But the Christmas tree is still Christmas tree-esque. Dude, November 1st, my Christmas shit is going up. That's what it was last year. It was like November 1st. Christmas went up in my house because I don't want to wait.
I don't want to only have Christmas shit up for like a month after Thanksgiving. No, I have it up for three months. November, December, January. We went over to my friend's house for a game night. Thursday.
Thursday. Anyway, I look over. I'm like, are you fucking kidding me? Christmas, the house that is right across from... So they're on a corner lot, so their side or their garage is the house that's on that side.
It already has a Christmas wreath up and their Christmas lights because they get them done professionally. I'm like, you know what? They're probably paying the cheapest price to get them up in October before everyone gets them done in November. But they're like, they're already done. Is that allowed in your HOA?
Oh, it's not in my house. It's not in my neighborhood because I would be finding them. That's right, Karen. It's in a different... No, it's in...
God, where do they live? West. West, West, West Jordan. Out near Mountain View. It's out there.
Yeah. But it was just funny because everyone was decorating for Halloween and I just looked over and I'm like, are you fucking kidding me? I applaud that, but also it's October. It's October. There's the whole holiday happening this month.
That's okay. I... You guys are going to judge me. We have this giant spider, Stacie. Close your ears.
I'm out. We haven't put it up yet. I got it for Christmas last year. That is the wrong holiday for that. It's the wrong holiday.
It was a gift. It was a gift. I see. But yeah, my mother-in-law got it out of an estate sale and it is the cutest thing. I haven't put it up yet because of the weather that is happening.
It makes me so sad. Yeah, the weather's been touchy. You guys will understand this. Skelly isn't out on our porch because he broke and it makes me sad. The spider isn't out.
But, but our purple desk-to-dash party. Our lights are out. Our pumpkins are out. Our window lights are on. We are still Halloween-y.
And I've gotten so many compliments from my neighbors and we haven't even finished decorating. I was like, but I... Can I tell you what we've done so far? You'll be so proud, Stevie. Yes, please.
Yes, please. I don't do Halloween. I did get a little light that I can change its color. So I'm going to put it out on our front porch and make it purple or orange. That's the first step.
Second step. I was gifted a ghosty, sensey warmer. And so that is going to be in my living room. Cute. And that is the extent of my Halloween decorations.
You know what? I have a lot of extra Halloween decor that doesn't fit anywhere in my house. I would love some extra Halloween decor. I might be donating. Okay.
Noted. Please donate. I didn't send you guys a picture. I already have my ofrenda up. What?
I take a picture. I love that. That's so cool. I love that. So an ofrenda is a very, mostly Mexican tradition, but Latin tradition of Dia de los Mujeres.
Dia de los Muertos. Yeah. Where you put up photos of loved ones who have passed. Aww. Dogs, people, babies.
I need to do that. And you, it's mostly the end of October. It's really like the first two days of November that the true holiday exists. But starting October 27th, you welcome in the pets by leaving out pet treats and lighting a candle for your pets. And then from the 27th to the 2nd of November, it's a whole tradition, a whole week of honoring those past family members.
But I've adopted it pretty heavily. Yeah, mine's already out because I have no chill. I think you should come to my house and help me set one up for myself. Yes, please. I have kitties and doggies and of course my little baby boy.
I honestly, I make my own pan de muerto and I make too much. Can you just talk Spanish the whole time you're here because that's turning me on. So I cook a pan de muerto and I cook a little too much. So I need to distribute to my friends because I only need one. I'm like three fourths there.
Can we decorate outside? Yes. Okay. I wasn't sure if we could, so I haven't done anything outside. Well, for me, it was like the lawn guys were still happening and all that.
I mean, the lawn guys are here, but we can decorate. So like with our HOA, like they're stingy on when you can start decorating outside and then how quickly you have to take it down. If you have decorations outside, it's like you can decorate outside the first day of the month of the holiday. So October 1st, we could start decorating outside and then we have to take it down. October 1st?
Halloween's almost over. November. Well, for Halloween. Oh, yeah. And then I can't remember how, like it's not like, I think it's like a week after the holiday you have to take it down.
It's like a short timeframe. That seems right. Especially with the Christmas, like they don't want it past the first week of January. They're like, get that shit out of here. Yeah.
Our neighborhood gets a little testy, but now that I'm on the board, take them down. Get it, Earl. When you want to. Because life is short and if you want to continue Christmas into St. Patrick's Day.
Right? I love that for you. It's green. It counts. It's green.
Yeah. I mean, and my tree, like I used to get a real tree, but, dude, they're so fucking expensive. They're almost now, they're almost as expensive as a fucking fake tree. So the past couple years, like I have a fake tree. I'm fine with it.
I just like it. Safe burning, all natural pine candle. Nice. And I'm dying. You know, then my house smells like pine.
Can we make a pact that at one point in our friendship, we, thank you, I can guess, we're holding hands and it's a whole thing. I would love to do like a cabin Christmasy friend thing. Airbnb? Where we for sure get our like real tree. We've had our partners cut it down while we're all roasting toasting inside by the fire.
Yeah, somewhere where all the snow is. I used to go out and get snow. The weekend of Thanksgiving after Thanksgiving, I would go out and chop down our own tree. Yeah, I missed that. Like a true 90s Christmas.
Legit. Yeah, but you have to give back. So I will do that part. When you take down the trees, you have to give back to the earth. I'll do that with my shaman shit.
Well, apparently, I mean, pine trees grow fairly. They're pretty fertile. Yeah, you have to have a permit to do that. They only give so many, so you're not going to just go chop down. But I just think that would be like a fun, like we take the week of Christmas and like the beginning of the week, go find that real tree.
I wanted to do that with my sister last year. Like go find a cabin somewhere like the week. I've just been missing the nostalgia of 90s Christmas. And it would just be really fun to do it with you guys. Okay, I wonder if we, because one, I can't do Christmas without my family.
I love Christmas. And like my sister, so I was texting my sister today because my daughter, dude, you think that daycare when your child is in daycare, it's like, oh my God, they have so many days off. No, then your child gets into school and you're like, what the flying fuck? Two and a half weeks for winter break? Are you kidding me right now?
Like, so then you have to figure out work, right? If you're not fully remote. Luckily, my new job is so flexible. I am eternally grateful for what I have found and the job I have landed. But so I'm just like, you know, like my sister is a teacher, so she has like the same amount of time off.
So like I'll ask her if, you know, she can take [REDACTED] for a couple of days. Oh, sorry. Ask my sister if she can take my baby for a couple of days and like sleep over there so that I can at least go into work for a couple of days. But last year when I was at my last company, I just took the last two weeks of December off because we had untracked PTO, which is nice. And so I'm like, my child has it off.
I'm just going to take it off. But so last year, that's why I was like, oh, we should do a cabin somewhere. Like you were just saying, Stevie, like there's some amazing places in Idaho that, you know, up in the mountains. Not very far. Yeah, that definitely get snow that are beautiful that have cabins.
Like I feel like we should find like two cabins or something like close together next to each other, you know, close proximity. And then that way we can like spend the time like with each other or like, you know, even like on Christmas, we can hang out at a cabin altogether. We can like still have like all that time. But like it, I'm sure it'll be like me, my partner, my child, possibly like my sister, her children, possibly my partner's brother and their family, which I'll leave it there. And then, you know, you guys too.
I just want to hang out with your kids and build gingerbread houses and do all the light corny treat Christmasy stuff that I don't really get to do because it's just me and my partner. He's not obviously into that. And my nieces get that with their parents, which grateful, but also like, oh, I love that. Yeah. So really, you guys are great.
But really, I just want to hang out with your kids. I know. Last year, my sister and I did go up to. What is it called? Up in Midway.
The Heber train? No, no, the hotel up there. It's the starts with a Z. I know what you're talking about. I can't remember the name of it, but I know the area you're talking about.
It's Zermatt. We went up to the Zermatt. Oh, yeah. It stayed a night. And like it was it was nice because it was snowy up there.
We had like this whole snow and it was fun. We took gingerbread houses and like we just did some stuff inside. It was a little weird. I don't know that I would stay at the Zermatt again, because the oven was a gas oven, which neither of us had ever dealt with a gas oven before. And we took stuff up there, you know, to make dinner and whatever else.
We did not know how to turn this gas oven on. And then it seemed like what I was doing was not working. And so like we kept trying all these things and then we had to call the front desk. And then and then all of a sudden it was working. And then I was like, I don't know if I would do this again.
Like you just need me there. I know how to work a gas stove. Stove top. Yeah. The oven.
Yeah, it was like you would think like it would be super easy. Like you thought it would turn on, which I think that's what it was supposed to do. But ours was like malfunctioning. So I think that's where we were getting frustrated. And maybe just the different rooms.
But then we tried to call the office or like the office, but like the front desk. And it was like a 20 minute wait for the front desk. And they're like, they're like, the wait is 20 minutes. Press whatever if you want us to call you back. And I was like, yeah, I'm not waiting 20 minutes.
Call me back. But fuck, I could have something cooking in 20 minutes. Like just get some fucking help. I don't know about hotels, but for sure we could look into like a cute little house. And honestly, it doesn't need to be like Christmas week.
But it would just be fun to do like a little old school traditional Christmas where we get a real tree. We're doing the like tried and true Christmas traditions of like baking things or gingerbread house or. Which I am down for all the time. Like I. My sister and I.
We could even do like leading into Christmas Eve. Or not Christmas Eve, New Year's Eve. Yes. So it's like an after Christmas, like winding down from like maybe too much family time or whatever. And like you just with your friends.
My sister and I started to back up because she found a Petzl maker slut bag and like an old school one. The old school ones are what you want. The new ones aren't as good unless you pay a hefty price. Any who's are. We went out to her house and made Petzls last year.
My daughter had so much fun. Because when my grandma lived here, she lives like down south now. But like I went over there every year and we we would pick a day to make Christmas cookies. So we would do Petzls. We would do wine balls.
We would do we call them horse turds. But they were like little round like pinwheel type cookies that like were filled with walnuts and cinnamon and sugar. Yes. Honey. Well, you can't come here.
But they're actually my favorite cookie. I thought I was actually going to make them the other night because. Can you do it without walnuts? No, I'm sorry. We'll find some other.
You just chocolate. We'll just put chocolate. Chocolate. And there you go. Aubrey will die a little inside.
But we'll be. Every time you eat one, I'll be like. It's not the same. I'll make my own. It's fine.
But sugar cookies like the whole like nine yards. Yep. I mean, there is some Venezuelan traditions that I would like to bring back. And we go get go to Michael's. They have ornaments that you can like paint like the little ceramic.
We're talking about Christmas at Halloween. Let's talk. Typical. I did bring it up. It's on me.
Yes. Next time. Well, I love you ladies. This is fine. OK.
I love you too. We'll have to talk about the next couple of months. But so real quick, is anybody dressing up for Halloween? Oh, yeah. What?
I want to, but I have nowhere to go. My daughter is. But I mean, with her, while we go trick or treating, probably not. Probably won't. I'd like to go to a party.
I might have a friend that's inviting me, but we'll see. Coming out with us. If you don't, anybody is welcome to come trick or treating with us. Where we go trick or treating is bombass.com. We might.
Busy AF. We got this little parking lot across the street from our neighborhood that does trunk or treat. And it is really cute because it's all of the kids of our neighborhood. I hate trunk or treats because I would rather be in my house. No.
I understand. Where we go, it is like you go house to house and they actually block off the whole street. No cars are allowed. I have no kid. And like they have, they usually have a taco truck on the street.
And I like tacos. In years. Surprise. Years they sometimes will have like hot chocolate. They'll have like fire pits sometimes in the roads if it's cold because like there's no cars.
So like people just hang out. Like the road gets so busy. A blog party. It seriously is. They dress up like great lanterns like as ghosts.
Might join you. I just, this neighborhood has finally like kind of adopted my husband and I under their wing. They know we're not religious. They know we don't have kids. But they know we love like people.
And I do a really good job of deceiving them. They know we love like the spirit of Halloween. And so they're like, oh my God, please come trunk or treat. Cause you guys always have a fun trunk and you guys always have fun costumes. And like you guys are really great with the kids.
I don't know. It just, it feels a little community. And I, I wish that was like that with just us being able to be home. And like trick or treaters coming to our door. But we just don't have that many kids in our neighborhood anymore.
Like they're, they're babies. So in a couple more years, it'll come back to like more kids. But like most of the kids are grown up or they don't want to like be in the neighborhood. They want to go be with their friends. Yeah.
So it's, so this little trunk or treat, like as much as I don't like trunk or treating, this little community that has built this little trick or treat is like super sweet. And like, I don't feel creepy being like, hey, we have no kids. Can we come hang out? Yeah. But maybe, I don't know.
We might go join another. You just, you let me know if you want to or not. My sister came with us last year. She might come with us again this year, but one house had a DJ. Like it was a full on dance party in their front yard.
Okay. That sounds fun. Yeah. Well, I hope we're able to meet again before Halloween. Yeah.
And chat some more about some Halloween traditions. Or some other holidays. Or Christmas again for Aubrey. Elmo says boo. I highly recommend Elmo says boo.
This is Halloween. Halloween. I have a list of movies that everyone should have watched by then. What? What did you say, Stevie?
Oh, I'm just saying I have a list of movies that by Halloween, if you need some spooky, scarries or just fun Halloween movies. No, I need some children ones. Like, what am I supposed to watch with my child? I don't have the line. I have seen that one actually.
Elf. Elmo says boo. Okay. Elf. Honestly, Coraline is probably more for adults, but I recommend it.
Coraline is scary. It is freaky AF. No. Um, let's see. Oh my God, Halloween Town.
I even think it's like Nightmare Before Christmas. I don't think. Halloween Town? Halloween Town. Halloween Town.
Oh, maybe Halloween Town. It's so cute. The Mickey Mouse is where on board with like Mickey Mouse Halloween. Halloween Town is pretty kiddish. It's pretty kiddish.
Bye. Is that one on New York? Not the second or third, but the first one for sure. Okay. Great team.
Check it out. Um, well, I love you bitches. I love you listeners. Till the next time. Love you.
Thanks for this video. Love you. Love you. Love you all. Bye.
Bye. Bye. Bye.
