Green Witch Herbalism: Plants as Ancestors w/ Sage

Green Witch Herbalism: Plants as Ancestors w/ Sage

Courtney Pearl · September 28, 2026

In This Episode

Courtney welcomes Sage, a green witch and psychic reader who works with plants as a primary spiritual practice. What emerges is a conversation about herbalism as ancestral medicine, the reclamation of the word "witch," and what it means to practice witchcraft as a man in a tradition historically rooted in feminine power.

Sage shares the origin story of Healing Hand Apothecary, named for the healing magic passed down through generations of women in his family. He discusses his signature brews, Witches Brew (a heart-opening, mood-elevating blend), Frog's Breath (a respiratory and communication tonic), Moon Milk (for dream work and liminal spaces), and Blood Moon (a feminine-centered tea curated with intention). Each blend carries both medicinal and magical properties, rooted in the belief that plants have evolved alongside humans to meet our needs.

The conversation touches on epigenetics, ancestral connection, and how witchcraft itself is a spiritual practice available to anyone willing to claim it. Sage speaks candidly about masculinity within witchcraft, the witch wound, and what it means to be a spiritual warrior in a world that has historically weaponized the word "witch" against women and the marginalized.

They also explore ritual as simple connection, not theatrical performance, and the importance of asking permission from plants before harvest, a practice grounded in relationship rather than extraction.

Hello, welcome to Practically Magick. I am here today. Oh, I'm Courtney Pearl. That's me. I host the show.

And I'm here with my friend Sage. Sage is a green witch with a black aesthetic. So tell us a little bit about you Sage. I love that. Yeah, I'm Sage.

I am, yeah, a green witch is kind of, I guess, a good way to put who I am. Herbs and connecting with plants has kind of always been a way for me to digest the natural world around me. And not the natural world too, helps me digest not the natural world. All the worlds. And also I'm a psychic reader.

So yeah, that's kind of. Yeah, Sage forgot his bones today. I forgot them. Unfortunately. So we're gonna have to do another episode just on that alone.

Yes, I think that would be, I mean different forms of divination, right? Yes. So speaking of divination, we start our episode with a card pull. I never, well, I say, I don't say never. Sometimes I do pull a card early if it, if the situation calls for it, but most of the time I pull it on air.

I love it. Live, whatever. This isn't live, but right now. So as we say, usually here on Practically Magick, you are getting this reading for you whenever you happen to be watching this. This card was meant for you and whatever it means.

And so we're going to pull a card. Do you want to pull the card? I do want to pull the card. What deck is this? This is the Mind's Eye Tarot.

It's kind of colorful, but in a dark way. I don't know. I fell in love with it. I had to have it. Very me.

Would you like me to reveal it? Oh, what? Okay. I'm going to show this on the camera so you can see it. For our YouTube fans.

You have to go to YouTube to see it in person. If you're just listening, it's the world, but it does have some of the, some of the symbols that you typically see. You've got the eagle and the bull and the lion. I believe it is, but this deck has like all these little, if you look, it has all these plant looking things. Oh my God.

And they appear in a lot of the cards, but they have like an eyeball inside of it. They're a little trippy. Yeah, a little trippy. It's kind of like we took a psychedelic. Yes, I love that.

This is what we're looking at as the world. So what this card might mean for listeners who are tuning in while we pull this card. I feel like a lot of cycles right now, and maybe it's the time of year too, a lot of cycles are coming to an end or coming into fruition. Yes. Like both at the same time.

Yeah, either it's like done or it's like I'm done. Yes, absolutely. Absolutely. Okay. So if you were to interpret that card, like to use anything come up for you when you see that.

Yeah, absolutely. Well, first of all, I don't know why I looked at it. She kind of showed you the card, but it has this like artichoke stock looking around it for me. And that plant is so, that is like such a witchy plant for me. I don't know what, maybe it's the like canning of it or whatever, but it has, it has that energy of both longevity and you have to cut it down.

And you can, oh that's your, and you have to cut it down to make it grow more. That's how the energy of the plant works. And which is very, very representative of what this card is and the time of what's happening right now. So, is that cutting down for more, the hope of letting go for more, I guess. Which is also, I brought you a little prize.

I brought you an apple actually today. Yeah, right now we're getting up on Mabon is coming up at the time we're recording this. And the episode previous to this one is our episode. So that's a great throwback too. Yes.

And apples are sacred. Very sacred. For the priestesses of Avalon. Avalon is the Isle of Apples. Oh wow.

So for like mythology, the island that King Arthur is taken to after he's injured and supposedly he will return again when Britain needs him or you know, whatever the thing goes. But Morgane Le Fay was one of the priestesses of Avalon and the sisterhood of Avalon. So apples are like, if you slice an apple long ways, it's the pentacle. Yes, the pentacle and all the things. Yes.

So apples, if you don't know, great symbol for that as well. And it's the season of apples. Yes. Apples for me, and the reason why I specifically brought this one because it's Mabon and it's the whole apple time, but apples for me represent that like, sensual, creativity, root chakra-y kind of energy. Yeah.

And that is very much you. You're very creative. Like anything that you do is creative. So I was like, oh here's a little like spark of creativity for you again or... Oh my gosh, I love it.

Yeah. So. Love it. Yes. I wish it was more so.

I mean, I think that I get in my head a little bit too much sometimes and I get busy and I'm like, when am I ever doing that creative stuff for myself or whenever I'm taking time for myself? But I also love eating apples. Right. All the things. Right.

Well, I've been doing this fun thing lately with apples that I think you would love and hopefully the podcast would love, but it's a form of divination with apples where you pill the pill and like you try not to break it if you break it, whatever, but you pill it in like a continuous spiral and then once you're done, you eat the apple and then you throw the pill over your left shoulder and then see what shape it forms on the ground to divine with, which I think is so cool. No, that's amazing. I would love to try that. I don't think I could... I think I could feel it.

I'm thinking of Meg Ryan in Sleepless in Seattle and she was like, Tom Hanks' love because she could peel the apple all the way through. Yes. I love that. And I'm like, I can't do it. It must not be anybody's true love.

Oh my gosh, I love that. That's so funny. That's what I get out of that. That is so funny. That's the divination that will tell me.

I love that. Well, you brought us also some of your product. I did. First, let's talk about that. What is it called?

The title? Apothecaryist? Actually, that's a good question. I don't know if there is really a formal name for what someone who owns an apothecary is. The chemist?

Yeah, the herbalist. Yeah, whatever. But yeah, that's me. I own Healing Hand Apothecary, which is the story of how that came to be is quite beautiful. Actually, if you don't mind me sharing.

Yes, please tell us about your apothecary. Yes, yes. So Healing Hand Apothecary. So if you look at the logo on... This is one of my little bags, which is brew what we're drinking today.

We'll go more into that. But if you look on the cauldron, there's a hand, the Healing Hand. In a lot of different cultures, this hand with the spile in it represents like a medicine man or woman or a healer. But for me, this hand, I actually have it tattooed right here. Yeah, it represents my ancestors.

So I was just telling you, telling Courtney about this before we started recording, but I was raised by all women. I was raised by my mom, my two aunts and my grandma. And they are the reason why it has its name because they all have this magic about their hands that is so... It's like the thing that's been through my family, this like magic hand and Healing Hand. My grandma would always do this thing when I went over and spent the night with her.

She would cook things and she's amazing at rolling tortillas. Oh my gosh, let me tell you. But like the way I would watch her hands and then like I would lay on the sofa with her while my grandpa watched NASCAR and she would like play with my with her nails. But there was something about her hands that was so magical that I like couldn't get out of my head and still to this day I can't. My mom's a mental health therapist and she uses her hands when she talks just like I do.

Like I'm going to do this whole podcast. Oh yeah, there's a lot of us like that. Yes, but it was almost as if she was pulling medicine out of her throat to like speak with people when I watched her. Yes. It's the most beautiful thing.

Yeah, and then my aunt Angie, she is like the craftiest little witch. I swear she has every gadget there ever is, but she's always like putting something together or creating or painting. She's really into dining paintings right now. Oh yeah. Yeah, I have like so many of them that she's giving me.

I don't know what to do with these. It's amazing. Right, but like she does nails now too. But yeah, that same hand thing. And then my other aunt Jenny, she is a hair stylist and she has the 2000s duck nail and they click and clack when she does your hair.

I love that. Right? I don't know what it is about that. And her whole thing of her business is bringing the beauty that's within you to the front. And so that was her magic.

So anyways, that's what Healing Hand is, is me passing on that magic, that legacy that the women before me have taught me and showed me and have passed down. And mine just happens to be plants. I think that's where my hands come in is how I can touch and communicate with plants in that way. I don't have that. I wish I did.

I wish I could say like, I love plants being around me and I love them being in my home or we have two little, uh, don't even ask me what they're called. I don't even know. Vining, you know, climbing around the room. Yes. Plants.

Pothos. Yeah, in our bedroom. And my husband's the one who kind of takes care of the plants. He takes care of the garden. I go out there and I go, do do do do do.

Hi plants. Here's my coffee grounds or whatever. And I talk to them and I do my little thing, but I don't know anything about them. I don't take care of them because I, it's not my thing. Like it's not, I want to connect, but I can't in that like care for them way that some people have or even remembering what they're called and all the names for them.

I don't have whatever it is, the hyper fixation I guess, that is like, I can do that. But just, you know, picking up little things here and there, you know, you, you start doing, um, like from the mythic moons of Avalon, I, there's a herb that goes with each full moon. And so I've kind of learned along the way, which to brew for that full moon, but that's so basic. It's like the little bits, but I think you find you're drawn to something. Did you find early, like when you were really young, that plants called to you, like responded to you?

Yes, yes, absolutely. Not until, um, recently, till I was like 17, when I started coming to herbalism, um, did I understand that I always had that communication with plants, or that connection with them. But yes, I was very aware. Um, I mean, a lot of kids have had this experience making potions with dirt and all the yummy things, but, um, I always like appreciated the plants, um, more than most kids did. Like I had a fascination.

Um, it was almost if they brought me to a different world and that's how they still feel now. Um, like my grandma, she grew all the things, all the different things. Um, and she still does. I think maybe that's another place I passed down. My grandma has a bright, bright green thumb, but, um, I was always so interested in my, my other cousin would be playing around with all the other things and all I wanted to do was sit with my grandma and eat the tomato and smell it.

And, um, I felt like by, by consuming it, I understood the plant and almost like it sounds so trippy. And I've talked about this before, like with some of my girlfriends, but have been like, do you ever like feel like you can put yourself in the consciousness of a plant? Like, do you ever feel like that? And you're like, what, how they observe or view things? And my friends are like, no, some of them are like, no, but like, I could, right?

I'm doing people right. Like that, but like when I talked to, I'm really drawn to trees. I love trees. Like I said, I can't always remember the name of them. I can't look at the leaf and be like, that's whatever.

I don't have that part of it, but I've always been really connected to trees and really love trees. But, um, but you meet those people when you're like, when I say I talk to trees, they're like, yeah, or isn't that a normal thing? Or the people that are like, okay, you hug them too, right? You're like, I do actually hug them. Yeah.

Well, and also like you just said too, like that's kind of like the weird thing I've had as an herbalist is I've had to go back and relearn the plants scientifically, medicinally, or what they're usually used for in medicine and all those things. But I learned the plants first by them teaching me. Right. And so like I just said, the plant is, I don't know if it's an othos or whatever it is, the name, but learning their name by them telling you their name, not by the, what the human name for them is, I think is, is where I resonate the most and how I actually connect with them the most. And so that, that draw that you fill towards them, you know the name and maybe it's just, you can't pronounce it in human words.

Like I don't know what they call you. Right. But I know who you are. But I know who you are. Absolutely.

Yeah. And that's, like you said, going back to your question, that's something that I've always, I've always been able to do is like understand the plant and be able to talk to it in a way that is, is different from how you think you talk to a plant or anything. But like, yeah, it's just how people are connected with animals. Like I have one of my little coven girls, she is like the, what is it, fauna or flora and fauna. She's like the fauna of it all.

She can just talk to animals and can communicate with them in such an amazing way. And that's how I am with plants. And I think it's, it's a muscle. I think it's all a muscle. Just like, just like divination, talking to those past and all that.

But it's, yeah, I don't know. It's just kind of been my thing. I understand them. Yeah, that makes sense. I, I'm so glad that you came today because I wanted to do an episode on more of like the plants and like I said, things that aren't necessarily my realm, I have connection to them.

And you know, I definitely as a pagan, you can't not have some respect or relationship with the, with the things that come from the earth. But, but like that not being my medicine or being like the medicine that I'm gifted at or connected to. And that you pointed out in this card, as we pulled this card for the beginning of our episode and noticed the plant and what it reminded you of and what that means, I didn't even notice that part of the card. And I have a whole new meanings, whole new come froms, which is why like you have a tarot reader or you have somebody that you go to for a certain thing. Go to different people, go to like people with different experiences and different backgrounds.

We're all so different at what we do vastly. But yes, but it's for that reason you just like highlighted exactly what I've been like, oh, wouldn't have even noticed that art. Or what would I have thought about it if I sat with this card or if I'd been reading this card for someone, what would I have come up with in noticing that? Not the same thing. There's not the same knowledge there.

That's really cool. Absolutely. Well, thank you. That's so sweet. I think it's, yeah, I think that's, I mean, everyone serves a purpose in the village, right?

Everybody had these things that just like Esther, who was on your episode a few back, I don't know if she brought this up, but it's something that connected with me about human design was the some people are supposed to be awake during the day and some people are supposed to be awake during the night. It's just like the innate humans take care of the village kind of thing. And so I think it's the same thing with witchcraft and community with witchcraft. Each coven member brings something that they understand. Like if you look at some of the most like infamous covens in pop culture, like the Sanderson sisters, right?

They all brought, they all did something that helped them as a unit be more powerful. Right? Just like Sarah, she was the kind of sexy sensual sireness, right? She could lure people in. And oh, I actually I forget her name.

I'm going to get so canceled. Mary. Mary. Yes. Mary in the witchcraft community.

I got to know her name. I got you. Right. But she could she could sniff out like ingredients, like the children and like she knew. Right.

And so I think we also also I'm going to get movies now. We've done this before too, where we start getting into the movies and discussing movies. But but Mary was also weirdly the motherly type in the group, even though when if it was like oldest and leader type, you notice how much Mary comes in and goes, I'm going to see you. I'm going to have you. Let me take care of it for you.

Yes. Absolutely. That is such a good, a good thought, a good idea. I actually didn't even think I've noticed that before. But she's always the one that's like holding her while Sarah's jumping around the background.

And Sarah's also kind of the childlike. Yes. But you know, we have like maiden mother and crown. Yeah. Oh my gosh.

We can talk about this. I was going to point out to you like the craft and like the four girls and like coming together. A lot of people call the corners or they do, you know, the certain rituals that are associated with witchcraft, which I, you know, you can use or you cannot use. It doesn't matter. Right.

But and we're going to get into a little bit more to like what it means to be a witch, because we've had conversations about that before too. But I want to our tea's been brewing. Yes. We can try it. Yeah.

I have to stir it up a bit because I put some agave in it for sweetener. Oh, I love it. But you brought us the witches brew from your, from your stash. From my, from my stash, from my business. Yeah.

So we showed the cauldron in the front. Tell us a little bit about this brew. Oh my gosh. Yeah. So, um, this blend was actually the first that I ever created for my business.

And it came from just a sheer obsession with witches cackling around a cauldron. I'm really big into storytelling. I'm also a dancer and I love to tell stories that way, but I'm really, really big into storytelling and that's something that I wanted for my business. And I think is also a lot of what witchcraft is, is also storytelling, like all your beautiful books in her beautiful library right now. My fans know, right fans?

Comment your favorite story fans. Oh, I love it. I love it. But they, but this, this one, I wanted the story to be told of like why, what is witches brew and why are the witches all laughing and giggling around it, right? Or floating up in the air and all these different things that we see.

And I kind of played off the idea that it is a mood enhancer. It, um, it like elevates your mood and, and elevates your craft. Oh yes. You see the color. So for those who are watching on YouTube and if you're not, you're just missing out.

Sorry. Look at the color. It's like a happy blue. Yes. Um, but it's, it was, it's crafted to be a heart opener so it can connect you to whatever it is you're working with or the witches around you, the people around you that, um, you want to connect to.

Um, like I said, it also has some blue lotus and some, uh, lemon balm in it, which are super psychic, third eye opening. Um, so I drink it a lot before I do a reading to open me up to the person in front of me and all the stuff around. Um, and then it has some St. John's work, which is very happy and just a kind of giggly, happy that, that cackly feeling because I think a lot of magic is laughing too. So absolutely.

I think that's how you know you found your people too is like to me, the connection of like laughing if we can laugh together is so, oh, this is it. Like it's a snap in or something. There's like a, we, we dive. Yes. Like this is it.

Yes. Absolutely. 110%. So we're going to drink this, um, and we can drive after. Oh, absolutely.

Yes. This isn't, yep. You're going to be just fine. I think it's worked before I've even tried any. I think that like the, just the, um, energy and vibration of having it, steeping and stewing while we were talking and stuff.

Cause I got here and we were like setting up and getting, I was just kind of so yeah, when I drink, do you like it? That's really flavorful. Oh good. Um, yeah. When I drink it, I really, I also like to honor the plants that are in it and just, I call you into my consciousness into me, teach me the lessons through this or the medicine or honestly, just the love that you have for me in it.

So yeah, it also has some lavender in there because that is my favorite ever and it's an everything, but it also, there's the certain right amount that I wanted to put in there because it, um, grounds you into your body too. It relaxes, but not puts to sleep. So you're grounded, but heightened at the same time, a full alignment. But yeah. How many different concoctions and brews have you got?

Oh my gosh. So far in your repertoire. Oh yeah. I'm going to few. I have a few, hopefully over the majority of my life and the life of my business, I have a whole bunch of different things, but right now I have just about like five.

They're like my main. Yeah. So I have witches root and the second one I actually made, um, is frog's breath. Yeah. I almost made this one.

So we were going to, we were trying to decide. Yes. Um, I ultimately went with laughing. That's what I want. That's what I want.

But yeah, let me show this one while you talk about it. Yeah. So that one has peppermint Mullen, um, I believe white willow. Um, there's one on marshmallow root and licorice. Um, yes, it's beautiful.

Um, oh no, there's no white willow kind of where I got the idea for this name because she has the frogs, right? Um, but also frogs because nothing is more witchy than a toad and a frog. Nothing is more suspicious than frogs breath. Yes, absolutely. Um, but this T is a, uh, a lung and respiratory tonic.

Um, it's also really good for when you're sick. Um, it opens up all those respiratory pathways and stuff, but it's also a lot of my products have a medicinal quality to them as well as a magical quality as well. And so all of these plants that are in this as well are super good at opening up your center of communication, whether that be, yeah, through voice, whether that be through touch, whether that be through dance or song, um, this is, this is kind of that. So it's really good for healing the respiratory system, but also helps open up your communication channels that way. Um, so yeah, that's, that's one of them.

And then the other ones I have one called moon milk. Um, that is actually when you steep it, it has some goats milk in it that like makes it this milky kind of texture, right? Yes, me too. Have you ever had goats milk in a stew? What?

Oh, I know. Change my life. Okay. I have this. Sorry, I'm going to go on a tangent for just a quick second since you said goats milk.

I have this recipe book. I'll have to find it. It was like recipes recovered from like, um, like, um, anthropologists uncovered. And so this guy, chef guy, whatever they are called, the people that make food, um, he took the recipes and he tried to like recreate them as close as possible to what we currently have modern day. So we could taste what they made.

And there's this stew. It's a lamb stew actually. That's from like Babylonian time. Like it's super duper old, like ancient stew. And I was like, I have to try to make it.

Yes. And it has goats milk and you can buy goats milk at the store. Guys, did you know that you can buy goats milk at the grocery store? Oh my gosh. And it changed my life.

Now, even when I just make a regular beef stew, I'm like, I think goats milk and my family's like, ew, what are you doing? They ruined it. I'm like, oh no. Oh no. It's so good.

Oh my gosh. That creamy just like, I don't even know that goat flavor. The little tinge that it gives. I mean, I think that people, there's definitely people that are like, mm. I think you have to be a type of person for goats milk.

I love it. I love that like skunky. Yeah. It's weird. It's earthy.

It's skunky. It's like tangeny. And yes, I totally know what you mean. I totally know what you mean. Absolutely.

I'm going to try that. I'm going to try that. I'm going to brew some up in my cauldron one day. Some Babylonian stew. I'll give you the recipe.

I'm going to go dig it out of my recipe books. And I have really only tried a couple things from that book, but it has like different cultures. It even like is broken up into different parts of the world, like different places. So you can kind of, I don't know. It's really great for ancestral connection because like you were saying earlier about doing this work is ancestral.

It's not just that, you know, you kind of described your more recent ancestors being all women using their hands and healing that's connecting you to them and passing that wisdom on. But I mean, just think about all of our ancestors. I don't know any culture on the earth that ancestrally didn't start with some sort of connection and spirituality to the earth. Therefore it's ancestral just to be doing this work at all. To be like, I talk to the plant.

I ask its name. I create ritual around the relationship that I have. Yes. 110%. Absolutely.

And that just brought me to something amazing that I want to touch on too with herbology and herbal magic. That it is that the plants inherently also are our ancestors. The plants themselves. Whether like adding the scientific about it helps you or not connect to this what I'm about to say. But it's been scientifically shown that these plants that have grown around us locally and other parts of the world have evolved with us.

Have evolved for the needs of the humans. Right? Like these diseases that we have accumulated as us humans do throughout the years. These ailments that we have accumulated as time's gone on. All of a sudden there's a plant for it.

Is that just mind blowing? It's beautiful. It sounds so obvious. We know this. Right.

We know this is true. We can see it in history all around. I mean this is not like. It's not something new. We're not rocking the world.

But to really just think about that blows my mind. To be like they. It's just that like higher power feeling of like the earth being a higher power and being like you need this. Here is something for you. 110 percent.

It's the most beautiful thing ever. I was just going to say too. You know you talk about us and the plants being our ancestors. I thought about epigenetics and how much influence we're noticing in the study of our genetic history. How much influence our environment or things like that have been.

Or even just the things we eat. So they've influenced our DNA in such a way that we've evolved to be who we are and to be born as who we are. But how much of that is because of the plants. Yes. Absolutely.

And everything. Absolutely. That we've been around. Well this is like. This is so so witchy woo woo.

But here we are. Practically Magick. But yes. That is. You're not here for that.

You're in the wrong place. Yeah absolutely. But well absolutely. And I think that there's just like this new boom in the way we think in our society and this scientific method of healing which absolutely is great. We have life saving medication.

I'm so grateful for that. But it disconnects us from the earth. From where we came from or inherently are. We are it. Right.

And so the fact that you talk about like plants and these things that are growing and evolving with us and our own DNA being influenced by these things. It just shows that we inherently are them. Right. Just because there's no physical connection we can see or perceive with our eyes. You can see and perceive them with other senses how we connect.

Right. And so yeah. I think that there's a really cool idea about this in the movie Avatar. Have you ever seen Avatar. Oh.

Not like Airbender. Like the blue people Avatar. The blue people Avatar. Right. They connect to their planet their earth.

I forget what her name is. I sob like a baby. Every time I watch one of those movies and it's like it shouldn't be that influential. I don't know. It should be.

It's like okay Hollywood. It's a movie. Whatever. Yeah. But the connection the way that what is their deity it's Awe.

Yes something like that. Right. I'm coming up with this on the fly on the spur of the moment. It's something that it's basically the interconnectedness of the entire planet in which they live. All of the animals all of the and so when they do connect they're connecting with their deity and they're like yeah connecting getting messages getting getting that connection getting the like yes absolutely to the whole system they're like they're like locking in oh it's Awe.

Awe. Awe. I was so close. You were close. You were close.

Absolutely. You were right on that. I was willing to go. Tomato. Tomato.

Whatever. Yeah. But that always makes me so emotional because I'm like why is it that there are some of us that don't get this. Like I just I made a post on TikTok actually yesterday but I was it was about Avatar. Oh was it?

Avatar and Ferngully. I was like do you think people who run companies or the government those guys you know they're guys. The guys. Those guys. I go do you think that they watch movies like Avatar and Ferngully and they're like hey the bad guy is like me.

No literally. But they don't. They don't. Oh my gosh. It's like why.

Why don't they go wait the bad guy has the same values as me. Yeah. 110 percent. I don't get that. And people commented on my TikTok they were like they don't have that much self-awareness.

Right. Dang. You're right. They did. If only and see that's why like as a witch people are like do you cast spells do you cast curses do you.

I'm like no I cast people to grow to expand their consciousness that's all I'm doing. Hope and prayer and all the things you want to call it but it's the same idea just yeah. Yeah. Yeah but like going back to what I was saying we when we watch Avatar like you just said it's it's we have to take our own story and we do this throughout so so much film and pop culture we take our own stories our own human experiences and we have to turn them into something else for people to understand like blue aliens that live on a different planet right. Yeah.

But it is our story and I was going to say we can connect with plants and our earth the same way they do. They just had to show a physical representation of them like connecting their brain to plants and the animals and things but we we have that we have that energy to be able to connect to things and that's also why the healing hand in my business the spiral palm because I think that's how that's where my little braid dangly thing is is in my hands you know touching trees and yeah so. Absolutely I totally feel that and I think there are people who watch something like that and they they get it they connect with it because they go oh yeah of course I mean it's just like it's like scientists coming out with something that's like new. Right. And there's a bunch of us and a lot of indigenous cultures that continue their tradition from ancestral knowledge who go yeah we knew that like we literally have folklore like stories all about that we call it grandmother tree we call it that because we already know that or you know that trees are sentient beings that communicate to each other and then the scientists go what we just discovered they're like beach bones in my mind I think.

Oh absolutely. What dude we just like just discovered that they're like fungus materials that like connect and communicate with the roots and you're like welcome to the club yeah we've all been telling you that for like a million years okay I those who've listened to the podcast I talk about that a lot I love it I go back to that a lot because I'm like really okay maybe listen to the people we just decided okay yeah absolutely oh my goodness like we discovered America all that oh right oh right we could get into that all my native ancestors are like let me join you at the table I love it um but yes absolutely so we will um okay I distracted you so you had other products you wanted to talk about oh yes that's where we were that's where we were I love it you were talking about moon's milk yeah moon milk yes I got into the goat milk and all the things yes and those those are plants to guide you into um the astral planes to guide you into the dream world um they have uh I have blue lotus in that one as well same with lavender um but then I have chamomile and um chamomile and um nettle actually nettles are beautiful um they actually help they're really good for helping heal the body and all of its organs and so I was like perfect you're asleep that's when we heal the most and so might as well give us a little boost in that um but anyways um yeah they're they're really good plants to help guide you into into those liminal spaces the moon milk that's what it's about um and it also can be used um as a in spell work for liminal spaces um like uh you can sprinkle some in your doorway thank you you can sprinkle some I love it I love it I don't know how long I thought we were gonna be here but I made a lot oh I'm ready I'm ready for it I'm drinking this all day um but like yeah you can sprinkle it too not just drinking it but sprinkle it in liminal spaces um because the moon obviously also is a very liminal being a liminal energy um so it has that in it as well and then I have blood moon which I'm very very strict about the way that this plant or this um tea is curated and um why I mean that it's called blood moon because it is um the feminine my feminine all the things feminine tea um and I have um like I said my girlfriends my friends are very very dear to me um and they are the ones who always curate who who mix it for me every time okay and I believe I can connect with a lot of feminine energy like said being raised by women I you know I'm very connected to my femininity but there's and probably past been a woman many times but them having that inherent energy right there um I'm always like hey I need to brew a fresh thing of blood moon can you come over and like mix it for me because I want them to put in that divine feminine um womb center womb magic energy into it but anyways that whole yeah right the whole mix of it is um raspberry leaf white willow um valerian rose all those things that help regulate this one down here um but also help regulate oh red clover as well help regulate um hormones and all of that um but then also those plants as well have properties to connect with um the divine feminine and so I love that yeah I need a little more of that I'm always told when I go to healers myself they're like you are needing to touch into your feminine a little bit more like all right I also kind of reject I have had a tendency in the past to reject like masculine deities or like I have this whole thing about like nah don't need it don't need it and I've gone and had them be like you step in too much to your masculine like believing that feminine isn't powerful enough or tapping into what the power of the feminine really is and how that can serve you and then um and then they're like and you need to be able to trust the masculine like be able to tap into that like asking masculine deities for help or to like just tap that energy and just be like um you know I I'm safe there or what I can see that you being really good for balancing oh it's it's amazing absolutely it's very and I totally actually it's so funny you say that because I've had that same connection like being I have such a hard time saying I'm a man I don't know why I've always had a weird weird right no literally but um yes I have in my practice had a hard time tapping into masculine energy as well and I even saw it when um we went I went to go see the new Practical Magic um spoilers um if you haven't seen it but when they find the um the witch warlock guy um with all the tattoos and fully exposed on the table but he there's a little spell and then they're like uh Jillian and they're like what and he's like well men can do anything women can do these days and there was something in me that it was like ew how dare you no literally I was like what but yeah and it's not that they can't I think that like in the history we're gonna get into witch a little bit here for a minute and I have episodes all about just the word and all of that but I think our witch wound is that the powers of what we felt like were it was to be a witch was our um what's the right word for it um protection or our uh like femininity yeah our femininity but also like our we have this you took everything else um there's not a word for that is there yes I'm like what is the word for that just like a if you're gonna give us no other power anywhere else this is where we get to have it absolutely um so I have a whole episode for those who haven't heard it I would definitely go back because we you just mentioned it a minute ago um about curses about is Kurt our curse is real and what our curses and I we like to go into this whole thing of like I'm a white witch and I'm like well hold on because curses are in some cases in our past in in the um ancestry of history of witches or witchcraft was our power was our only defense that was the word I think I was looking defense yeah it was our defense to um power like power we couldn't access otherwise so um that and also my my theory on curses being literally everything that people do on a daily basis anyway no literally we are walking around cursing constantly yes we just want to admit it and we don't want to call it that and we don't want to be like well that's dark magic well actually you do it all day all day when you're driving down the road and somebody cuts you off and you're like beep yeah that that is literally a curse that's a hex yeah and then also just like what are you doing to yourself all day every day with all the negative beliefs and self-sabotaging beliefs and things that we work on in healing work or when we're doing shadow work is we're going like what are the curses I have placed on myself literally yeah and again curses have power because we believe in them and how many belief systems do we have that are just like cursing us from abundance or from joy or from peace or from power or empowerment right um or blocking our throat chakra or whatever you want to call it but it's yeah so this is my little little spiel on curses but we've kind of talked about I love it the history of the word witch and so what do you feel about the title of the word witch for men or is there what do you what is what you thought on that yes yes absolutely I love this topic um so like I said before yeah I've kind of and being a man myself and identifying as a witch it's kind of like a little what's the word I'm looking for um interesting that I'm like oh man witch but I literally am um male claiming the word witch you know um but I got no problem with that I think that's that's part of what I've had to do and grow within my practice because I've always idolized the woman witch um and have always idolized the the feminine within witchcraft just like you said because it was a way that that women had power and I connect with that so much and I and I have I could go on about past life regressions and when I've been a woman witch before my past life and I that's why I'm so connected to it now but in this life I came as a man and am having to learn how to be a witch as a man and I've had to grow a lot actually um uh I think that what I think about witches a man being a witch is I think that um there's different ways to be a man right um and and what do we even identify as a man right right I mean then you go into like the whole like question of why does it have to be gendered and why does it have to be you know it kind of breaks the mold and challenges the the thought or yes like that things have to be something or the other yes yeah absolutely and so what I think um I think that every man who is interested in witchcraft or wanting to practice it um will find their own path just like every woman finds their own path and what femininity means to her masculinity means to her um that if if being a witch to a man to whoever it is is being burly and strong and feeling a sense of strength within your craft um then that's the way you practice and that's beautiful um but there's also for me being a man as a witch my calling is to to to figure out what being a feminine man means and what being a um a wild man means if that makes sense I love it I think I think and I'll go more into wild in a second but um I lean into the femininity because witchcraft helps me connect to that that femininity that wild feminine within me and I think that um that witchcraft and and kind of the narrative of it being a um a gendered thing or a woman's dominated um well now I guess it is a career I mean it's been a career forever but um yeah field uh it gives men that are interested a chance to look at themselves look at their own masculinity and say this is something that if I do it I'm going to be looked at as maybe a little bit more feminine or maybe a little bit more yeah like like you know what I mean like just well and it's interesting you saying this because I'm I'm thinking about my own experiences and and relationship to calling myself a witch and there are so many terms so many different things you could say I am blank but if you find the thing that is the most hits the target thing then do that the colors of that and like one thing that I was thinking about when you said wild I remembered like the women who run with wolves and just like the wild what's really cool about that is to me saying women who run with wolves just that phrase it also implies everyone's welcome in my mind in the way that I feel about it is like when we say women we don't mean exclusively we mean that everyone's welcome yes because when you say men who blah blah blah historically it's not it doesn't feel inclusive it feels like mentally yes absolutely and that's what I was getting at with the whole the whole man when you when a man is coming to this craft it makes you look at what does my masculinity mean if I am tapping into this femininity and is masculinity inherently more in me because I can be feminine right that's such a weird dichotomy but yeah and and also that respect as well that respect for for women and that you know we can't unwrite history witchcraft has been used as derogatory and as a weapon against women and the marginalized since forever and so as a man calling yourself a you have to be able to understand that level of respect for women and that level of yes this word has has been used against you and now belongs to a lot of women now and I am taking this word on to identify with who I am in solidarity and respecting where this word came from if that sense and so yeah I hope that made sense yeah yeah it did to me and I I think that that's part of it I think that's crucial too is like I'm gonna take this word knowing what it means of knowing the history knowing what it means for people like me who are claiming that word now knowing that's quite an uphill battle it's got to be an uphill battle for you too because it's like I've already had so many conversations with people in my local community where they're like um I mean it's so great what you do I'm gonna do the voice please do the voice the voice is needed it's so great what you do and of course we all believe in energy work and all that is like really becoming acceptable but could you just like maybe use a different word for yourself it's just that some people have a negative connotation with it and blah blah blah and I'm like no I choose to call myself this word because I don't think that what anyone else does in my line of work is any different I just dare to say I do this work and I want to make a living at it and I think that's pretty daring and I even get a little to each their own everybody has their own thing but sometimes on the group forums and things like that you're out there in the world of the mystics and and healers and stuff and they'll say is it unethical to charge money for what we do like shouldn't we just be providing this service to our to our community for the greater good you do you you do what feels good to you if you feel like this is just what I need us to provide and serve and it's free and I'm making it accessible to everyone no judgment about that that's great however people who did this work were at one point in history respected for it and were given compensation I mean in the form of money or whatever they needed to survive so they were given a position of respect in their community they were like we we make sure that the witch doesn't starve yes make sure the witch does not starve just make sure the witch doesn't starve is all we're saying and so for me in this modern day to say I deserve to make money doing it because I come at it with professionalism with expert expertise knowledge and education everything that I've put into making sure I provide something quality to my clients my participant whatever and yeah I deserve to be making a living at it yes it's something I'm working on I'm still kind that little space of healing work myself to be like I deserve yes you do and like really believe it like really in my subconscious believe it but I do I feel passionately about that and I feel like yeah that's where we should all be at with the the terminology of calling ourselves a witch or professional witch and I like the idea of saying like going around being like professional witch yes brew tea I am a professional witch absolutely yes I am going back to what you said about the word witch um oh means so much to me it makes me emotional just to talk about it um but like I said before with men anybody can practice witchcraft that's what's beautiful about it that's what makes it so powerful it's such a liberating um way of being a way of identifying um but the witch to me and I have this quote up um on my mirror when I get ready because it reminds me every day um but it says the witch is the spiritual um soldier let that sink in for a second the spiritual warrior um the spiritual it does feel like being the front lines of spirituality always yeah and we always will be and I think that right now that is the front lines that me and you face in in this in this day and age um and and don't get me wrong witchcraft 10 years ago 15 years ago is viewed completely different than what it is now there has been so many women and men and queer people and black people working so hard to make and create this to be something that is accepted and safe to claim and to practice and to be and to become your um your uh livelihood but we will always be fighting that because to be a witch inherently means to be the marginalized it means to be someone who is to look at the dark parts and be a liminal creature to be a witch is is to be a woman it is to be queer it is to be um the the the black woman who struggles with um her way of believing and not wanting to you know throughout history be conformed into patriarchal um religions and systems right that is what the witch is to me and so yeah the witch is the spiritual warrior and we always will be and we will always be fighting for this way of living and in that fight is the way of living right in that fight is is the magic that that we are and one one spell by one broom ride I think that we are making the world a better place by fighting for yeah because even if people don't believe what we believe or don't you know part of my work is still fighting for alternative belief systems even if I don't believe them and even if they're like uh which which which I'm still fighting for that by fighting for my own I think I've done that too where I've like pointed out to people in groups and things that we've done they they um they will sometimes pretend like they're accepting of me by being like oh i love what you do this is cute or whatever I'm a novelty to them but when i point out we're doing witchcraft they're like you know pump the brakes and to me the issue is maybe just don't um reject the idea that we are that the same that even if you you know your spiritual beliefs are different than mine or they seem different than mine or you go to a different building on sunday or whatever it is but that you light a candle when you're praying or you you have ritual and you have um a way of practicing your belief it's really not different it's not it's not that different at all so I think that you're right we're just like this warrior for challenging people a little bit yes a little bit of like it's uncomfortable yeah and I'm okay with being in that comfortable space with you if that's what you need to do right experience that well I think that's a great place to start wrapping it up and i wanted to point out before we go because you had noticed this book on um I've mentioned this book on the podcast before but uh you'll see all the notes I'm seeing out of it uh we did like a book club thing with it at one point um so to go along with what you said because when we were getting ready to taste the tea and you were talking about the ritual of like here's what i like to do to connect to the plants that's a lot of what she talks about this book I'm probably gonna totally destroy how is how you say your name back up piastrali believe is how you say your name oh beautiful ritual is a book that i read years ago and it really does talk a lot about that sort of spiritual connection to anything of the earth like in in response to the earth and what i love about what she teaches in this book and she does have kind of like little activities sort of things like oh i love an activity book at the end of each chapter i can see like how I've like highlighted so i love it um i even let somebody borrow this book for a minute oh and it has like beautiful colorful pictures we're doing like story time now I know i love it oh my gosh how beautiful picture for you guys um but i loved reading this in her um just little like it doesn't have to be these majorly planned and theatrical rituals to become connecting to feel connected so she has these little just kind of like at the end of the chapter try this or do this and it's literally as easy as um creating an altar outdoors like in your outdoor space just being like grab some twigs and leaves and rocks and create a little sacred space yeah what would that look like what would it feel like and you don't have to bring anything with you it can all be stuff you collected right there on the spot you can do it anywhere anytime um she also had and I've I've used this a lot with my kids when we started you know like i said we have a garden and my husband really takes care of it but i try to do this kind of stuff with the garden ritual and i take my kids out there and i say like we're gonna pick all the tomatoes that are ripe right now but remember you ask permission first you do not pick the vegetable unless you feel that the plant is allowing it and we just have that kind of intention in going and having relationship with the plant rather than you're for me yes that sort of what is it like a colonistic sort of mentality of like yes you're mine i own you i planted you and you grow tomatoes so i can eat it's like no we're in relationship with each other you live and on the land that i live on we are um we are same yes i water you you feed me you feed me and I don't pick something unless I am allowed like so even when we're on a hike if we're foraging or if my kids just want pine cones for fun or something I'll be like wait did the tree say it was okay did the tree give you permission to do that so she talks a lot about that in this book just different ways of connecting with the land with the cycles with yourself with community um and that's one of the things that i wanted to point out and just because you asked and also because that's the relationship it seems you have you do this like naturally right which is crazy that i that I was like what is that book it's funny how things happen that way yeah um yeah that's so beautiful well i love that i definitely still want to read it because i love how people do people connect in different ways but yeah i think that that's yeah for me that's really what witchcraft means is is connecting back to where you're from ancestors the earth um all of it and it's a spiritual practice I'm like even that book i can't remember a single time in that book that I'm trying to recall i may be wrong but i can't remember a single time in that book that she calls it witchcraft and yet it is and yet it is there and that is like that's the moral of the story is it like you don't have to call witchcraft but it is but it is and it's okay and that's fine I mean like your bias about that word or you know people's bias about that word or how they just you know come to it right might be a thing but I'm like you blow candles out on your birthday you have a christmas tree you have a great right yeah I think you might practice a little bit here it just says what's her franny says there's a little witch in all of us a little witch in all of us is one of my favorite oh god I know I'm so excited so if you guys haven't seen practical magic 2 yet we have oh we're better than you go get seen it it's
