Hammerin’ Hank Show Ep 73: Chiefs Loss, Radio Stories
Hammerin' Hank Show Ep 73: Chiefs Loss, Radio Stories
In This Episode
Ep. 73 of The Hammerin' Hank Show finds Henry "Hammerin' Hank" Ochs and Ryan Hoppe trading radio memories, jokes, and sports takes, with Hank declaring the Chiefs' opening-night loss a disaster and the Knicks his pick to repeat. The conversation moves from a Hawaii story and his early days singing for Man Cal on his morning show, to a stretch of rapid-fire jokes about everyday annoyances and the strange rules of working in radio. Church life comes up too, including the congregation's study of 1 John and an upcoming comedian night. Pop music trivia runs through the middle of the episode, with questions on 1970s adult contemporary hits and a late-2000s Nelly record. Hank names Dr. Pena and Pastor John among his buddies of the week, and LeBron James takes the prick-of-the-week spot over a stunt at a Philadelphia 76ers opening game and his finals record. The hosts also talk about Hank's push to get back into commercial radio, his Bay Area Radio Hall of Fame plaque, and why he misses the Pop Rocks game show from the 1980s. It's loud, unfiltered radio talk built for listeners who want comedy, nostalgia, and sports in one sitting.

What up Hammerin' Hank? If I start the- How the fuck are you doing buddy? How the fuck am I doing? I'm doing pretty fucking good. If I had to- I'm doing okay.
Well, we'll get to that, but we gotta hit the opening intro, Hanky. All right buddy. This is episode 73. Isn't that crazy? Crazy.
Let's go, let me hit the music. ["Hanky and the Airways Spree"] What up Hammerin' Hank? How the fuck are you doing buddy? I'm doing good. ["Always Going High"] How are you buddy?
Despite the fact that my Chiefs suffered their first loss of the year. Yay! The Chiefs did not look good last night, bud. Mmmmm. They look fucking terrible.
What do you think went wrong with the Chiefs, dude? They- they fucked up. And Hank, we're the coach of the Chiefs. Why would you set it up? I hope you do better next week.
Hell yeah! You should be a coach, Hank. Coach Henry Ochs! I'm pumped up. I had my mom in town for a whole week and it was nice.
But I got the apartment to myself! Woo! How was your radio show today? I have a radio show tomorrow. 11 a.m.
to 1 p.m. on KC.R.H. 89.9 FM Hayward. Is there any chance that I'm bringing back to streaming? I hope so.
Is there something- okay. I wanted to ask you, I don't know if you know the answer, but you know KLOS in Los Angeles, the radio station? Yes. Okay. They got rid of online streaming where you can't listen to them unless you're in California.
And then KC.R.H. got rid of it and it's in California. I'm wondering if it's the California thing. Probably not. Ah, okay.
Hayward, hey guys. See what we got here on the list. What is your radio memory of the week? My radio memory of the week? The day I met Heather in Hawaii.
Who's Heather? She's a girl who went on a trip to Hawaii for a rap concert. But I didn't get to go because I injured my foot. I've heard that story before. In Hawaii.
That sucks. Was she hot? Extremely hot, buddy. What was the hottest part about her? I don't know.
Everything. Any other radio memories of the week? Yes. The day I joined the Man Cal show, he had me sing a lot of songs back in the day. What were some of the songs you sang for Man Cal Molar on Man Cal's Morning Madhouse?
The Rick James hit record, Super Freak, Super Freak. Can you sing it for me? Do you remember it? I don't pay attention to the lyrics. I'm sorry.
That's okay. I think that was pretty much the lyrics to it. Was that probably one of your favorite memories of working with Man Cal? That's one of them. What are some other memories?
Because we always hear about JV & Elvis. What about Man Cal? The day I met the set Melinda's. Who's that? She's a freestyle singer back in the day.
Oh, that was that freestyle. I loved meeting her. And I met George Clinton. Oh, yeah, I think our friend DJ Love, she sent us that picture last year. Cool, buddy.
Anyhow, any other radio memories of the week? That's just about does it. All right, I'm going to have to me like I want to hang jokes. OK, let me have for many. All right.
Let me have the Miller. Mm hmm. Oh, yeah. Woke up this morning, fill my coffee cup. Should have known today I'd have some messed up luck.
Henry Ochs and Ryan Hoppe on the show. Making jokes so bad I can't help but glow. Hank says, why did the scarecrow get in? Oh, Lord, laughing so hard, I'm wheezing on the floor. Ryan's cranking tunes, we got to hear some more.
H jokes got me juggling. My side's hurt, I'm bumbling. Can't keep straight my face. They got us all in a loony race. Knock, knock, who's there?
It's me. Can you? Hey, what do you got? What I hate it when someone says, make yourself at home. Why?
Because apparently taking my fucking pants off is frowned upon. You're the best, bud. What I always avoid answering unknown numbers. Why? Because anyone who actually likes me already has a fucking number.
And Hank, Hank, to that point, that proves that all the war of the roses is fake, because who's answering the phone at 710, you know? I don't fucking know. Next. What I hate it when the waiter asks, how's everything tasting? Because my fucking mouth is always full enough to require a translator.
Oh, geez. Why do they always say I'm trying to save money? Because saving, saving on fucking broke makes people stop inviting me places. And why do I hate it when someone says, smile? It could be worse.
Why? Because that's exactly what the guy at the gas station said before. My credit card was fucking declined. Why do I always pretend to be asleep on an airplane? Why?
Because I don't want to hear a stranger's entire life story at fucking 30,000 feet. Oh, geez. Why do I hate it when someone asks if I've seen anyone? Why? Because apparently my reflection doesn't fucking count.
Oh, geez. Why do I check the expiration date before you have to eat something? Because I like finding out how much danger I was in. What I hate it when my boss says, you're like a family here. Because my actual family doesn't make me clock in.
And why do I say I'm not judging? Because I fucking already made up my mind about you. Sounds fucking rude. Hank, why did I get into radio? I don't know.
Because I wanted to be famous without getting recognized and well, man. Why? Oh, what? Why do homeless people always beg for money? Why?
Because they're too fucking racy to work. Oh, my God. Jesus Christ. Why do radio DJs always sound so happy? I don't know, buddy.
Because the microphone can't see their bank accounts. Why did the radio station hire a program director? I don't know. Because one talentless person wasn't enough to tell them what's going wrong. Why do radio DJs hate staff meetings?
I don't know, buddy. Because it's an hour of talking about how we talk too much. Why did I become a morning radio host? I don't know, buddy. Because I wanted to be exhausted and underpaid before breakfast.
Why do radio stations love giving away concert tickets? I don't know, buddy. Because paying their employees would be too expensive. Why did the radio DJ get dumped? I don't know, buddy.
Because even his girlfriend got tired of hearing the same jokes. Why do radio DJs love the sound of their own voice? I don't know, buddy. Because it's the only thing the station lets them control. Why did the radio station tell me to be myself?
I don't know, buddy. Because apparently they meant the version of myself that doesn't offend people. And finally, are you ready for the last one? Yes, buddy. Why do radio DJs always say they're living the dream?
I don't know. Because admitting they're underpaid and working three jobs would ruin the magic. And those are, as Hank would say, and those are the jokes. By the way, Hank, right here in the club. What do you think?
I'm trying to load up, but I cannot find for some reason. I have it right here. What do you think? Church music. Yeah.
What the hell's going on at church? We're still studying the book of 1st John. And stuttering. What's going on there? Yeah, but how is it going?
Yesterday, because yesterday we taught how to love each other. Yeah. That's cute. That's adorable. How to love one another.
How to get to heaven. And how to respect people. That's good. You should always respect people. What did you learn?
Thank you, buddy. Give me an example of what you learned. Well, the Bible says, love one another and you'll go to heaven. Oh, it is. And what happened there?
I forget. Hank, is there anything else going on in church? This coming Saturday is comedian Sunday at the CV First Church in Caster Valley. I have it memorized. Hank, we've been recording for 11 minutes and 11 seconds.
Make a wish. My wish is to meet a hot fucking female artist. Oh, yeah. One to sit on your lap. Anyhow, I'd say if I were to play the intro for trivia, would you be ready for trivia?
Yes. Let's go. Let me play the music right here. We can't just start the segment. Oh, yeah.
Trivia questions. Yeah, no lying. My mind shocked like a blade that's flying. They asking those questions got my brain frying. Hammer in Hank's got the mic up high.
Pop hits playing till the end of the sky. Got to keep it real. Can't let it slide. Answers in my head. Can't let him hide.
Pop trivia. Yeah, we bringing the heat. Get your knowledge up. Take a seat playing those hits while the knowledge fleets. Hammer in Hank never miss.
All right, Hanky. Hanky. What do you have? Who had the top 10 adult contemporary hit record? Polar Tree Man way back in 1975.
Uh, Sleeve would make. Nope. Phoebe Snow. The only Phoebe I know is that hot piece of ass from Friends. Who had the top 10 hit record?
Why can't we be friends in the mid 70s? I don't know, but I love that song. I'm going to go with Stanley Dan. Ice War. Who had the top 10 hit record?
Uh, it is. Dance with me. Who? Let me think. I'm sorry, I shouldn't answer.
Madonna. Nope. Orleans. Man, you're going with names I've never heard of, dude. And who had the top 10 hit record?
Right with me back in 2000. I got this. I got it, Hank. You ready? Yep.
I don't know if you're ready. Nelly. That's correct. Yeah. And that's it for the music trivia.
If I hit the music, would you be ready for Buddy of the Week? Yes. All right, let me hit it right here. Hmm. Hmm.
Tune into the show. It's Hammerin' Hank. Autistic genius always keeping it dank. Henry Ochs on the mic. Hot Rod and Shotgun.
Roll call for the buddies. We just having some fun. Buddy of the Week. Google Biggie Crayon. Hey, bring your smile.
Love the haters down. On the airwaves, we breaking the code. Street-wide vibes on this radio. All right, Hanky, who's your buddy of the week? Deadly Francisco Lendur, a New York Mets baseball player.
Why is he your buddy of the week? Because he just won the 2026 Roberta Clementi Award. Oh, yeah. Community involvement. Good for him, Doug.
Any other buddies? He does a great job for New York City U. That's very good. Anything else? And my other buddy of the week is Pastor John.
I love Pastor John. Who's teaching me how to behave myself. How to respect Christianity and the like. Any other bunnies? And Tom Wolfman, Dr.
Pena, and a lot more. All right, Hanky, I know. Listen, when I say this, you immediately let it go. I'm going to hit the music for Prick in the News. Let me hit the music first, OK?
OK. The last few times you just immediately say, one second. Ah, it is. I don't want to. Who's your prick of the week?
Definitely LeBron James. He's a douchebag. He fucking disrespected an Ash Lanthan at the Philadelphia 76's opening game. I guess in New York Knicks. Yeah.
In New York. He pretended to go golfing. Like a loser. He's a fucking loser. Cop free throws in the national anthem.
He never ever cheats on his wife. He's so loyal. He's a fucking loser. He is an un- Alexa, how many times has LeBron James been to the finals and what is his record? LeBron's been in the NBA finals 10 times.
He's won four championships. Oh, yeah. Dude, he's gone under 500 in the finals. He went four and six. Like a loser.
There's a back sound called, I'm a loser baby. Why don't you kill yourself? Actually, don't kill yourself. Alexa, I'm done talking to you, honey. Any other pricks in the news?
Back up. Catch you later. That's definitely it. Hanky, give me a second. You can always leave us a voice call.
856-49-HOPB. That's 856-494-6773. How could I find you? You can hit me up on my Instagram at DJ Hammerin' Hank. I need to just let you talk.
Let me hit this right here. You're not going to be able to hear it. Oh, it's the old music. One second. I'll point when it's time to talk.
It's the old music from NBA. Hot tea. Hot tea. As the beats about to drop. Oh, right here.
Are you ready? Right now. It goes like this. Right now. Forever and ever.
Oh, yeah. The NBA is back. How are you feeling, Hank? Extremely good. Oh, yeah.
It's good. Hmm. Because I think the New York Knicks will repeat as NBA champions. Yeah. I'm hoping they do kind of.
I wouldn't mind if they won. I kind of want someone else to win. Caleb Wilson's looking like a baller for the Bulls. The Warriors ain't fucking doing shit right now. I know.
That's what happens when you don't get a free agent and you sign that loser. Known as Pods to a lot of money. He's a pod. Anyhow. He's a fucking retard.
Oh, dude. You could say that I can. Ah, Hammer and Hag. What are some game shows you want to have come back? Definitely the pop and rocker game from the 80s.
My mom's only like nine years older than me. She never heard of it. It's interesting. Pop and rocker game. It's a music trivia game.
Their motto is a game in concert. Hmm. What do you like about it so much? I like the musical performances. That's great.
That's great. Great to hear. And also the music trivia questions. Hammer and Hag. How is the job search going?
I'm trying to get back into commercial radio and edition during this podcast. I don't even think commercial radio wants to be a commercial radio. Why would you want to do commercial radio? Because, uh, it's okay. It's okay in the club.
It has its moments. By the way, your plaque is official. I vectored it, which means that the certain file that I sent to program director Alex on the radio over there on high 977. Your plaque will be ready very soon because the Bay Area Radio Hall of Fame. I'll let you know.
So that'll be ready soon. Bay Area Hall of Fame. They're a very good organization. They are. They should have given you a plaque.
I'll be the one to say it. Not you because you're a nice guy. All right, Hank. Is there anything else on your mind? This or comments?
Oh, yeah. You didn't write that down. Let me see. Hammerin' Hank, I cannot believe they did not give you a plaque for the Bay Area Radio Hall of Fame. You're definitely one of the greatest to ever step behind the mic.
I absolutely love your podcast and your appearances on The Woody Show. Keep up the good work. Thank you, buddy. Anything else? I gotta say what's up to all my buddies out there, including my favorite pop rock artist, female pop music artist, and hope to see Blunder Concerts very soon.
